Where where all Octavias???

Featured Replies

Just spend 3 days in London visiting my mate who moved from Finland to work in a city job chasing the big ££££.

But where were all the Octavias? Went around west, central, east London and spent all days wandering around. Only saw 1 OCtavia, where where all you guys? Or are Octys banned from entering London ;)

Sorry us "Northerners" need a visa to visit London:rofl:

Try the M1 and M6 to rain central:rofl:

Livingston probably didn't want Skoda's in London, bet Boris is pro skoda :P

anyway, as said, us northerners aren't allowed

they are higher earners down there and can afford the higher end of the VAG car range.

Skoda don't sell well around London.

I think the bad reputation has lasted longer near our capital

I still maintain my theory - they have an image to maintain

If it is about the price, then why did I see a lot of other brands that sit it the same price range?

Could it be that Skoda is seen as a "entry level" or "Audi/VW pretender"? And buying a other brand which does not have such relations to "premium" brands is OK?

I (and sure that other Skoda drivers also) have encountered a lot of prejudice towards Skoda's brand. I work in highend technology manufacturer and image is important for the company. Fortunately our country manager is open minded and he was ok for my choice of car. Now that my black Octy estate has been around 6 months lugging partners, customers and stuff, everybody likes it. Many have made positive comments and some have gone and test drove a Octy for their new car.

Some of this is because I always keep my car clean and tidy. Had the paintwork treaded when it was new to have really deep shine.

London is still in the Yuppie era

Have to agree; There are loads of VW and Audis in NW London where I work; its all down to badge snobbery IMHO. Their loss!

There are two Skoda dealers in my part of London and they are both doing a good, steady trade. One supports at least two fleets of taxis!

..This is allegedly one of the reasons skoda aren't showing up to the motor show as well :(

They claim that they do not have (and do not intend to create) a strong enough dealer network around london to justify the cost of exhibiting there.

When they see sense and move the show back to the NEC, hopefully they'll come back!

but you will often find many on taxi ranks.

Yes but not in London but maybe on the outskirts.

Maybe Skoda drivers are sensible in London. Why use your car when you can use the tube?

I am a Londoner and although I don't live there anymore, you won't catch me driving around in the car when I don't need to.

Skoda drivers are in it because they are sensible (when choosing a car), you can't equate that to people who live in London by choice!!!! Who the hell would want to live there, grotty place?

Name me a city that doesn't have its grotty parts though :P

We knew you were coming so we all stayed in

I f*cking hate London! :D

I live in "affluent"(!) SW London, and I used to notice an almost complete absence of Skodas compared to VW equivalents. I put this down to a mixture of badge snobbery and simple motor ignorance: Skoda wasn't an established brand (one witty motoring journalist, I can't remember who, described the Golf as the "default option for the undiscerning"). To be fair, Skoda don't really have a clear small family hatch equivalent to a Golf. There are now a few Mk1 Fabias and in the last year or so at least 4 Octavias have arrived in neighbouring streets, mostly nearly new, so i think people are catching on.

St. Davids in Pembrokeshire, The Vatican in Rome....

Its full of foreigners

I'm in 'comfortably off until recently' SE London, and there are a few Octavias around - mainly estates. Elmside Skoda in Beckenham seems to be a fairly successful dealer, but I admit its fairly unusual to meet one.

p.s. London is lovely. I went to Derbyshire at the weekend and the fresh air and incessant wildlife nearly killed me.

They are all in northern Spain! Could not believe the number driving around when we took a touring holiday in our Octy. Very reassuring that help and parts would be at hand but obviously would not be needed.

Its full of foreigners

 Just like Bournemouth.

 Just like Bournemouth.

And any other uk town and city i'm sure.
