considerate driving on the roads...

Featured Replies

seeing as there are pleanty of threads about the bad driving we all see on the roads, thought I'd start one to give praise to considerate drivers....

I came up behind an old man on a twisty A-road today, I had my roof sign on, so was driving to the "most correct" fashion, but was still making way more 'progress' than the old man, but to be fair to him, he wasn't going painfully slow...

it seems he was carefully watching his mirrors, and noticed me, and on the first straight clear bit of road, just tapped his left indicator on, to let me know he was aware and I could pass, went past him with no difficulty, and waved thanks, to which I got a wave back.....

whay can't it always work like this, instead of passing people to the usual flashing of lights and abuse?

anyway, thanks old man in ford focus

Makes a nice change. I've noticed that in Scotland people are more likely to let you pass.

Must be a Northern thing.

Wish it was like that down here.

i think im a considerate driver down south. but as soon as i get to coventry and the midlands it seems everyones for themselfs!

undertake down here you get the most threataning evils when traffics busy or when some muppets in the middle lane.

yet undertaking on the m6 its 2nd nature!

but i do appreciate people saying thanks after i have waited for them to pass. or i wave sarcasticly to make a point! lol:P

 cant beat the horn though can you.....when someone gets on your nerves ;)

yeah if people did do more like that....people that speed up when you overtake them reeeaaallllyyyy bug me.....

it makes a change from the camping weekend lol, i still cursing the ford driver who had 3 foot of room on his n/s and made us scrape along by the bush on our side cos he wouldnt move in (claiming he couldnt get in anymore)

I have noticed that when i take all the taxi signage off my car people are more considerate with me.But if iam working then its a case of "No way f*ck you mr taxi:finger:"

:rofl::rofl:

me and the taxi's in our town have an "understanding"..... I let them out of junctions in prefence to the tourists, and they are in turn nice to me and my learners

I do find people pull in to let me past occasionally. Good to see and I always wave thanks.

I sometimes fear though my car looks a little menacing in the rearview mirror and perhaps that's why - PS: I always leave good distances between us - I'm a big fan of "Do not do to others what you wouldn't like being down to yourself".

If i saw you behind i would definately get out of the way :rofl::rofl:

(Respect of course)

The indicating left to say its safe to pass is an long standing thing, especially from truckers. My dad always did it and so do I. I will always move over and give the vehicle behind a better view of the road for his overtake.

I find general standards are better in Scotland.

Got to admit I like the people who say thanks to you by hand signals for letting them have right of way, I do hate people who point blank if I have to stop for them who do not see thank you.

There are some good drivers about sometimes. On the occasion I have someone wanting to howl past me, I will generally either give them the opportunity to overtake or speed up so they don't have to. :D

I quite enjoy the courtesy side of motorway driving. Somehow, when you flash to let someone out of lane 1 etc., get a wave of thanks (or a hazards flash), it makes the journey that bit more pleasant. :) I am especially courteous to lorries as I am sure they have enough problems as it is without car drivers being unhelpful, so unless I am in an awkward spot, I will always flash them to pull out. :)

I'm glad there are some of us gentlemen left :D

I found when I was in my Impreza that people would quite often flash their indicator to signal me past on country roads etc, don't seem to get it as much in the Octavia! Maybe it doesn't look quite as intimidating in their rear view mirror perhaps :D

i have a similar deal with local taxi drivers and delivery drivers, if we see each other we let them out. the couple that dont play ball soon find that we wont play ball with them either
