My 55 plate 140, dsg Elegance went in for some minor warranty work and whilst there i said that in October my warranty will be up ,so could they check things before that time especially with the problems spoke about on here about flywheels .I was then informed that there is a "squeek" which should be investigated which could be flywheel. Wow i thought how did we get to that?, perhaps i should not have mentioned beforehand.The only thing i have noticed is that when i start up first time in the morning and with my foot on the brake it thumps and without brake on it moves slightly forward. Any thoughts?.:confused:

Well, unless you've worn the clutches out, it's a warranty claim, because the issue was raised within the warranty period.

Might not be a warranty claim. AFAIK the flywheel issue was on 54 plate cars manufactured towards the end of 2004. People were asked to pay for a clutch if they wanted it doing at the same time.

If it is a clutch problem it may be deemed fair wear and tear as its a consumable part therefore not covered by warranty.

Its bound to be DMF related though.

I'll have my first service in October (long life). Car will be on warranty as I extended it for one more year. I'd like to ask my dealer to check DMF too, but I don't know portuguese name for it.

Car will be two years old. I've got it new in October 2006. It went out of the factory in the end of 2005 and it's 06 model (according to VIN number). 2.0 TDI, it will have arround 25.000km.

Is this car affected as well with DMF issue?

Maybe the french name rings a bell, it's called "volant", or you can just take a part no, picture of it to them.

If your clutch has not been damaged you will have to pay for a new clutch kit yourself if you wish for it to be fitted. On a manual car this is a £200 parts cost and there was no additional labour charge. What this is on a DSG I don't know.

If your clutch has been damaged by a failing DMF they do actually replace it as part of the change.

Since you can't do anything to the clutch yourself on a DSG I'd suggest it's most likely a warranty job, but only a dealer/skoda will be able to confirm that.

It could also be a release bearing if you're getting a jump while starting the car I would have thought.

What does your book say is the maximum towing weight is is over 1350kg?

A DMF is a dual mass flywheel.

Essentially take your old lump of metal flywheel and make it two lumps of metal inside each other. Connect them with some springs and dampers and this is a DMF.

They are meant to reduce vibration, but in my experience are not proving reliable.
