Auto park and other rubbish aids

Featured Replies

I like the new 'parking aid' which coincidently uses the same frequency lazer technology as speed traps. One of those would be very handy!!

Most people are only human and therefore have been known to make mistakes.

Can you honestly say that you can reverse a car that has a large blind spot at the rear (like a MKI Octy) up to another object, be it another car, low wall etc and stop 6" to 10" away from it - EVERY TIME, day or night, no? I thought not.

They are simply driver aids, there to make driving easier and safer, what is wrong with that?

I can, never hit one yet and where I work a space as large as 10" is a luxury. I also like these driver aids as. as they get more common people forget or never learn how to do job without them, so when they go wrong they need fixing and we can earn money out of fixing cars.

Sitting in a traffic queue this morning in the works van, two questions ocurred to me when I saw an M6 BMW next to me, the first was 'Why name a car after a motorway?', and the second 'how much damage would be done if the fired a Tazer at it?'.

Reverse aid = B0llocks. Just reverse up against a wall then get out and see how far away you are.

Enough room to park a Smart car :(

Don't have a problem with parking sensors, as they can actually be useful. As long as you don't rely on them 100%, your brain is still required :)

It's the auto stuff I have a problem with. Auto lights, wipers, handbrake etc. Why? From what a lot of people say, auto wipers especially are a PITA. Either don't come on enough, too much lag or they're flying off the screen. What is the point of having something in addition, that then doesn't work properly?!?

Just gadgets for the sake of it. I like the toys as much as the next person, but not when they're pointless and just seem to make the task of driving a car more frustrating.

Rant over :D

Steve

I like my parking sensors as I always end up playing it too safe and parking miles away from the back of the space.

But they do make you lazy and you rely on them too much.

Auto-park is going too far IMHO. Clever but a waste of time and money.
