Auto park and other rubbish aids

What the heck is wrong with everyone nowadays? Reading the review on the superb and I see the idiot driver devices are being fitted to that too.

Can't anyone reverse a car ino a parking spot without the aid of a £750 device to do it for them?

Same with reverse sensors. Can't you work out how long your car is?

I'm sorry but human beings will evolve with no arms legs or brain if people really seriously need such nonsense.

Rant over.Just think we seem to be so reliant on such unnecessary gadgets for the sake of gadgets.Waste of money:)

I saw a Smart car with reverse park sensors in a supermarket car park a couple of weeks ago, and nearly lost all faith in humankind!

I find small hatchbacks harder to park than big saloons....

Nothing wrong with parking sensors - I can park fine without them in most spaces , but when it's really tight they make life easier.

I'd be lost without my parking sensors now.

The amount of times I nearly killed SWMBO's Felicia because I'm waiting for the Beep, Beep.

Just keep washing and ironing, know your place leave the drivng to us men :rofl::rofl:

Monkey boy ....more like gorilla man :P

I see the point in rear parking sensors in saloons and notchback cars (like the octavia), but for the fronts and estate/general hatchback cars I think they are a wasteof time as you can use the rear glass as a guide to when you need to stop as essentially that is the back of the car bar 5-10 cm.

I could do with parking sensors having a mk1 octy, it can be a nightmare sometimes. If in a street with shop windows I look at the reflection of the car in the window. It's surprising how far you can go back, yet when looking out of the rear you think your gonnaclout something for sure.

Most people are only human and therefore have been known to make mistakes.

Can you honestly say that you can reverse a car that has a large blind spot at the rear (like a MKI Octy) up to another object, be it another car, low wall etc and stop 6" to 10" away from it - EVERY TIME, day or night, no? I thought not.

They are simply driver aids, there to make driving easier and safer, what is wrong with that?

Well said...............lets also get rid of electric windows, PAS, ABS,TCS and cruise control while we're at it eh?

I used to just open the door and stick my head out so I can see where the rear end is on a Vauxhall Combo

Or just use the leccy mirrors.

Yeah, and electronic ignition, and injection...

F*ck it!

Lets just cut holes in the floors of our cars and Fred Flintstone it everywhere

i have to park lorries all day long and all these are fitted with parking sensors that bleep in the middle of no where for no reason at all, but reverse up close to something and it goes to sleep, so therefore i never rely on the damm things thus why i couldnt see the point of 750 quid sensors when you have your mirrors and windows to look out of when parking. If you dont know the size of your vehicle then you shouldnt be driving one.

Interesting theory, so if you reverse onto a loading bay, you can stop 1" away from the rubbers without actually touching them every time - i am impressed.:orb_clap:

Its something i wish i could do every time.

i guess its a skill you pick up doing it everyday.

It either must come with age, or I must be doing something wrong then, as i can't reverse a trailer that is only 50' (15m) behind me, and stop 1" away from the loading bay every single time without touching it.

I have also yet to see anyone else do it. But then i have only been doing it 23 yrs.

I used to just open the door and stick my head out so I can see where the rear end is

That's exactly what I do to park at work, regardless of which car I'm in - it's a narrow space with columns and a narrow aisle so usually takes two or three shunts to get in.

Putting the lights on helps too as you can wait until the beam has virtually disappeared from view and know that you are only a couple of inches off the adjacent car/wall - works both for the front and back.

Prefer this myself:D

YouTube - Montego Commercial

Superb would be in its spot after about a day

It's borrax that advert the montego would have broken down before it had chance to do all that

I think "auto park" goes with auto wipers and auto headlights in the "if you need these you shouldn't be driving" file.

Survived going backwards for 23 years so far in all manner of cars and dropping the car into parking spots nose to tail:).

Simple, simple thing to do.Or it should be.Though lorry drivers always impress slotting an Artic in reverse through the eye of a needle:thumbup:

@Andy.....:D
