Hi - New to Skodas!

Featured Replies

Hi There,

I'm Nick aka Golf-Fiend and I am about to get my frst Skoda and I really need your advice. I have always been a VW man - Golfs only (also a dalliance with a Jetta a long time ago) and always 16V Golf Gti's with plenty of top end power and thrills....

Now I am looking at a diesel Skoda Octavia as the Golf is far to small for the family (wife and two kids and camping etc). I have been looking around and have found a fairly decent looking Octavia at a dealers. 49k miles, full leather, 2.0 TDi engine, 6 speed box, 17" alloys with sport suspension, full dual aircon, cd changer, cruise control etc with full 12 month warantee - all for about £8.5k

Am I mad to go for it or mad to pass it up? I can't decide. My wife likes the leather seats and the big boot space.

Seems like a nice solid drive and good condition

Help..I can't decide.....

Welcome :)

Hiya.

The car you're looking at is basically a restyled Golf (well, actually it would be more true to say that the Golf is a restyled Octy since the Octy used the mk4 and mk5 platforms before the equivalent Golfs did). Such being the case I'd ask whether your needs are extra luggage space (loads more in the Octy) or rear legroom for growing kids (no gain over equivalent Golf).

Hi guys, thanks for the warm welcome and friendly advice.

Yeah, it's the boot space we really require. The kids are still little (2 & 5) so legroom isn't an issue at the moment.

I have driven a very high spec 2.0 TDi engined car. How does this engine compare to the 1.9 TDi? Any advice welcome on things to check when viewing these cars. I know Golfs like the back of my hands.

TIA

Nick
