flapping noise above 100

Featured Replies

As my vRS approaches 100mph there's a flapping noise underneath like the engine cover or something similar has come loose and is flapping about. any one heard of this before? similar sort of sound to driving accross hatched road markings at that speed but louder

the car has recently been serviced and i dont think it did it before hand, which is making me think they might not have refitted a cover correctly

any ideas? possibly a common fault?

Thanks,

Dan

My **** starts flapping when the speed gets to 100mph+

Could it be that:D

Sorry about that, havent got a clue about your real problemo

could it be the bottom engine cover isn't mounted correctly into the metal clips at the front of the lower spoiler, or perhaps some prize tw*t has forgotten to put the retaining screws back in place? the cover itself is reasonably stiff plastic so it might not flap about too much until your going some. a quick look under the front of the bumper and below each wheel arch should verify it's been refitted correctly. if the car was serviced i'd reckon the lower cover would probably have been taken off to do the oil change.

Yes i was going to say also the tray under engine.

100 mph??? that was on your private test track wasn,t it?

I had the same on my previous Leon. try holding up a piece of paper flat to your mouth and blowing over the surface....same effect :)

What happens if you stick to the UK speed limit?

you dont get points

but points win prizes :P

I never mentioned where I attained that speed :P

the cover underneath was the only thing i could think of, or maybe an arch liner. scared the hell outa me first time it happened

It should. Flapping leads to fatigue, which leads to breaking off, and at that speed...

Try taking it back to the dealer and explaining the problem.................

My guess would also be on the engine under tray.

If the oil was changed ,should have been removed to drain oil -though some people now suck oil up through dipstick hole -I give them a miss as I don't believe it gets rid of any sludge ---some of our techy guys confirm Skoda spec on this practice ?

have you checked for the neighbours cat?

it was the under engine tray, they'd missed both bolts out at the back when it had been serviced

does any one know what size thread they are, i've put two m6 screws in that i cut down but they didnt feel quite right so im going to replace them with the right screws
