The car is a Fabia 6Y2364; Fabia 1.9 TDI Elegance

I have installed a carputer with a touchscreen in the dashboard

I also changed speakers, speaker wires, and also added an amplifier

These are the components of my installation:

Case: "hand made" case in 10mm MDF with 3 holes for fans, and 1 5.25" bay

Mainboard: ASRock K7S41GX

CPU: Amd 1'2 GHz

Ram: Kingston 1 Gb

Power Supply: M2 ATX

Master HDD: Compact Flash Sandisk Extreme IV 4Gb (266x) with IDE-CF adaptor

Slave HDD: Fujitsu 2'5" 120 Gb in external HDD case, USB wired

THE CASE, MAKING OFF:

I have an uncle that likes to work the wood, and in his free time, he make furnishes (for him or for selling it)

I called him, and the answer was yes

I did the blueprints of the case, bought the MDF and gave all to my uncle:

THE SCREEN (ADAPTATION TO DASHBOARD):

Firstly i wanted to install a stand-alone screen, camuflating it with the radio front panel and the little box front cover, but i saw photos of a carputer from an user of SoloCarputer :: el portal en español de ordenadores en el coche, and that gave me a better idea

Originally, the screen that i would mount was not able to full camuflating it, because of this, i had a lot of work to do to make it fully indash:

Taking measures. here you can see two "box rails" (sorry for my english), that needed to be cutted:

And here adapted to the dashboard (under the original radio), sorry for the blur:

Fully indash (not camuflated yet, but you can imagine what were be the camouflage...):

Operating position (there are approx 6 centimeters between full indash position and operating position):

Being camuflated, the main button panel were unable to operate; i have a pair of the same screen (1 not working), then i wired the main panel of the another one into the glovebox, to operate it when neccesary (also have a remote control, that i use to open, close and vary the tilt angle)

"TRUNK BOARD" AND AMPLIFIER:

(sorry for my english)

Here is a picture of the "trunk board" (i don't know its name in english; sorry).

Made by my uncle from a 16mm MDF board (using the original to take measures)

Originally we made 2 holes for a pair of 6x9 speakers, but later I changed my opinion and mount a pair of 2 separate ways (6.5" woofers), and there was necesary two adaptors (you'll se them later; i will advise)

(dont worry about the teddycat)

I had read that it was big, but you can't image how big untill you see it

It's 25 inches long

FIRST STARTING OF THE CARPUTER (AT HOME)

2 days before mounting all into the car, I decided to configure and start the PC

Sorry for the mess of my desk:

Never before, a blue windows screen gave me bigger satisfaction:

WTF???? a problem???:

This was a problem with the size of "virtual memory", because I'm using a 4GB Compact Flash to install the Operating System, just 5 minutes to fit the problem, and no more problem

THE DAY BEFORE

I had to let everything ready to load in the car and go to mount all into the Fabia

I went to sleep at 3:00 AM and woke up at 6:45 AM

There is a picture of some elements that would be mounted (some of the elements into the big box were not mime)

THE "D" DAY (Saturday, April 5th 2008)

After waking up at 6:45 and went 6 times to the car to load all (sorry, there are no pictures of this), I had a revitalizing shower and went to mount all

I had a date at 8:00 with a friend that helped me to mount the carputer (i would help his to mount his carputer)

Special thanks to Domingo, my Boss that let me mount all into the work place (that day were closed)

My naked fabia:

You must have in mind that there were this amounts of wires (sorry for my english):

SPK wire: about 35 meters

Main positive wire: about 5 meters

USB: 9 meters

VGA: 3.2 meters

Sound RCA: about 3 meters

Video RCA: about 7 meters

and many other smaller quantity of any other wires

the best of all is that you won't see any wire, all of them are really well camulfated under the floor of the car

There are a little bit photos of the mounting, because we were mounting all as fast as possible

Provisional control panel of the PC

The switches and Leds were welded to a pair of ethernet cables

I am working in a plastic panel with all the switches and leds, but isn't ready yet:

Lots of work to manage this result

Actually is 100% operative, but i need to install some programs like PhoneControl (to have hands free), and reinstall Road Runner (a front end to control all the system), and I have to install the cameras too

Touching the screen to modify the volume and/or skip tracks was too dangerous

I was searching the way to make an external control

Browsing in SoloCarputer :: el portal en español de ordenadores en el coche I found the solution:

Adapting a Sony RM-X4S remote as it was a joystick:

The adaption is so easy: I only had to weld two resistances, and a pair of wires (and install a little application):

Im in the process of putting a carputer in my fabia vrs and pitting the ash tray cover on the screen is a genious idea and solves my security issues. The whole install looks amazing.
