Couple of niggles - Rattle and Rust - Yikes!!

Featured Replies

Two little niggles with Rufus the Roomster

First, I have a rattle from the left hand side, I emptied the car, glove box etc and could not track it down, then Sunday my son "leant" on the door card / armrest and it went away.

It looks like there is something rattling in there, has anyone had the doorcards off a Roomster yet folks and have any pointers? The door cards themselves on the scout look quite complex in the grand scheme of things.

Second thing, I have got surface rust on the beam behind the dash. When I hard wired the talex in ant the weekend I popped off the cover on the right side (were the fuse box is on an octy) and the metal beam there has a fair bit of very very light surface rust. Anyone else noticed this? It's got to be worth a trip to the local dealer I guess.

Opinions / thoughts?

Cheers folks

Not had any rattles yet other than the ones I have put in (I found a paper receipt under the passenger seat buzzing last week  ) Unlike my Fabia which had more rattles than Mothercare it's solid. The door cards will be a pain and if your that bothered by the rattle I would speak to the dealer who can go through the hassle of taking it off and sorting it ;)

The beam your refering to regarding the rust, this is bright zinc coated? I don't think they are meant to have a decent finish on them just protection. The plate should stop the rust really (Partly through sacrifice) and what you can see there is probably just on the surface. As the beam isn't in a position of view or one to take on any further moisture I wouldn't worry.

I've also got a noise coming from the glovebox area,i've removed any loose objects but it's still there, for the time being i'll turn the radio up until I have time to investigate further:)

Rattles in the dash/door area were cured on my Rooscout by packing the plastic end covers in the dash (visible with the doors open) the l/h one was a light rattle but the r/h one sounded as if there were nuts rattling around in the air vent. Maccy D straws were used as temp. packing and then forgotten about until this post.

yep ive got exactly the same rattle on the passenger door card, if you press it it stops!

have you found out what it is yet?

Excuse my ignorance what do you mean the "door card"? I have a rattle from the passenger side of my roomster but haven't tracked it down yet?

Not yet, but I have some free time this week so will be whipping the door card off to find it.

Hessy ..... the door card is the plastic / fabric inner cover for the door, the bit with the window switches etc mounted to it.

Took off my door panel today to get at an annoying buzz type rattle, there is a plastic cover on the underside of the window winder motor that was rattling so i packed it out with bubble wrap and refitted the panel .........noise gone!

Removing the panel is a piece of cake.

2 small torx screws under the map pocket

Get your finger nails under the door pull handle to remove the cover and there are 2 larger torx under there.

6 plastic push in studs 3 per side, job done.

Had to do this with all of the doors in my Fabia. Luckly all that rattles in the Roomster is my sunglasses in the overhead holder.
