Not a very good swap - a turbo for a map!

A map is much more useful when your lost

True.

remap increaces boost pressure not oil pressure and that wats gone an oil seal

Possibly the case, but then since the oil acts as the turbo's bearing more boost means more speed, means more pressure on the oil in it means hotter temperatures means that the oil seal could be operating outside of spec and have failed.

Just a point that they possibly could get out of it this way.

Bringing it back to the KKKs being 'weak', I note from the racing Porker poster feature in the last Top Gear magazine that the folks at Porsche believed KKK were OK to race with???

If you look on the internet most turbo cars now are using KKK.Whats happened to Garrett now?

Probably that they cost more for a similar spec so they are used less.

I would guess manufacturers accept a certain number blowing up in return for a lower cost point.

What an oil seal in the engine.?

Surely a remap couldnt cause that.?

I unless you where seriously tearing along... i dont see how that could happen.

Must be a fault.?!!

I hope you get a payout from Skoda.

Otherwise... could be costly.!

Higher boost = higher pressure on the seals and higher working temperatures.

The seals will be rated for certain pressure and temperature.

If it gets too hot it will fail.

If it gets too much pressure it will fail.

It's very easy to see how a seal can fail from increasing the boost.

Not every engine will map the same, all have unique strong and weak points,

Just because a seal passes a test at conditions to produce 130bhp, it doesn't mean it would pass at 131bhp.

Realistically the engines are probably tested at about 150bhp before being set to run at 130 to give a margin of safety.

out of all the vrs on this site i'd say 60% are mapped to 180bhp so yes there are lots of different maps but still there must of just been a fault

Or the component was only just to spec so pushing it past that caused the failure.

Unlucky I agree, but sounds like a perfect opportunity for a bigger one ;)

I have a bigger one

See the for sale section..

Think ive done all the promoting i can get away with ;)

Bust seriously you dont get much stronger than a garratt based turbo dynamics hybrid

i would buy it but just cant afford it gutted

i would buy it but just cant afford it gutted

I know i might well sounds like a holier than thou type and it isn't meant in that way, but surely that alone is a good reason not to mod inside of warranty?

if i had to have a bigger turbo then i coukd afford it but i can't afford to spunk money on major mods a remap is affective and cheap a turbo is affective but bloody expensive.

plus my girlfriend would not be happy lol

I might be getting a little old, but what is ‘spunking money’?? It sounds a bit rude:confused:
