what's that above yer heed?

Featured Replies

ok , i've been looking at it for a while now (while stationary), and despite checking the owner's manual and asking a few mates i'm still no further on.

the object that i'm so confused by may seem , to most people, of no consequence but its really starting to bug me!

i'm talking about the small perforated area in the fabia vrs interior lighting console above the rear view mirror, next to the driver's side light. what the hell is it for?

have had a couple of thoughts:

1) (most likely) its a microphone area for any future hands free kits,

2) a discreet 'forehead airbag' which was an inclusive extra,

3) an area from which noxious gases can be pumped when 007 uses the fabia vrs in his next movie,

4)thats where that bast**d annoying fuel warning beep comes from (not that i hear it very often you understand)

if someone can enlighten me that would be much appreciated, ta. :)

Some kind of interior temp sensor perhaps, like on the octy.

I think its there for 2 reasons...

1) its where the temp sensor would be for climate control

2) its where the motion detector is for the alarm system..

HTH

Temp sensor for climate control would be mounted in the climate unit itself with a small fan to drw air over it.

Can also have a sunlight sensor but that is an optiacal unit normally mounted in the centre of the dash.

I was also under the impression that it was climate control. It looks exactly the same as the two measurement vents on the front of my Climatronic and I'm led to believe there's one the same for the rear seats too (somewhere ...) so that the unit knows where it needs to duct the air to to make sure the car is nice and comfy (rather than, for example, chilly footwells but hot headspace ...)

But, of course, ICBW :)

Theres nothing in it, a nice little void space that now houses my hands free mike.

If it's in the light unit like other VAG cars then it's for the mic of a hands free car kit, certain brands directly clip in.

Nokia CARK91 Kit Microphones (taken out of their plastic shell) clip into these voids.

They do suffer a bit from wind noise though.

so , it does seem like the majority think it could be used for a moby hands free kit microphone.thanks for all your ideas lads.

just one small point tho josh, where is all the wind coming from to rush past your microphone INSIDE the car??

If you have the window open a tad or sometimes they just pic up the noise of air rushing over the car (especially the speed josh drives at :) )

Some mic's suffer more than others

If you fit the Mic in the light unit make sure it's not a multi-directional one, as most are, this is the reason you get poor performance from them as they pick up the road noise running through the car.
