Interior lights problem, can't locate the connectors

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've got the usual story: water in passenger side footwells, and now the interior lights are not working. Also got some very weird error codes from VAG.com.

I've tried to check the connections if they are corroded, but all seems OK to me. My car is a LHD, I've looked into the right-hand A-pillar with all the "plugs" and the wire loom starting from there, and it seems to be OK.

With LHD Superb, the comfort module box is under in the drivers (front left) legroom. I haven't checked, but am quite sure that the left side is intact from moisture. The pollen filter is in the passengers (right) side of the car.

In one post spurs1972 stated that the nodes controlling the lighting are on the near side rear footwell. I tried to find them from rear right, but didn't succeed.

If anyone has any updated info or, even better, pictures about the wiring, I'd be more than grateful.

I've also consulted a garage, they are very sceptic about corroded wiring (they say all the connectors are in a-pillar and they seem to be OK) ... On the other hand, they think that the comfort module might need reprogramming if the CAN bus has been affected with the moisture.

Anyway, if you have insight, I'd be grateful.

Cheers,

Pekka

The uninsulated nodes are taped up inside the wiring loom. When the car gets wet, electrolysis occurs and the joints go green and fall apart. It seems VAG engineers don't study electrochemistry in Wolfsburg.

Rotodiesel,

thanks for the reply. So I have to look for taped joints in the loom - do I have to go through the whole loom, ie. rip the black harness tape out, which is keeping the loom together? Just inch by inch from the whole length?

Btw, does anyone know how much would it be to buy a new wiring loom?

Hey

Just rip off all the tape. There's two "nodes" which usually corrodes under the carpet behind front seat. One with 6 thin red / black (maybe red /blue), and one with 4 blue / gray wires. You need to rip off all the tape to get to them.

Don't know price on new harness, but try to fix first...

Good luck!

I am also having electrical problems with my Mk 1 octy but the conveniance module is under the steering wheel but i am in the process of checking wires on the loom.

What a design flaw they did here. :thumbdwn:
