Anyone used a boost tester?

Featured Replies

Hi all

I got my boost tester a few weeks back after ordering from the US, it was recommended by someone from briskoda. Sadly I have not yet had a chance to use it on my octy vRS BUT this evening I did try it on my brothers Passat 1.8T (Sreg).

The problem with the car is lack of power, yer I know... Its a passat... But he has 2, both 1.8T's and his other one is much quicker (Wreg) and you can here the turbo much more, where as his sreg cannot be hered at all!

So, I detached the air box from the duct/hose and attached my boost tester, using my foot pump I compressed the lever about 20 times but the pressure didnt rise not even 1/2 a psi, the guage on the pump would go up slightly as it was compressed and then drop down to 0 as if it was not attached.... Am I doing something wrong or is my bro looking at a huge vac leak??

This is a static pressure/leak tester, not a guage to measure boost pressure with the engine running?

If so, then that's a pressure leak somewhere.

Yer I know... Im not a complete idiot just mostly. ;)

My message did kinda say I was using a foot pump to presurise the system, not the engine. Thats made me chuckle, a boost guage in the engine bay he he.

From what i have read the air pressure should hold but slowly leak away.

I also think you need to block off some pipes in the turbo inlet pipe to prevent air leaking out, not sure which though.

Edit this may help AudiWorld Forums: Somebody asked about boost leak testers yesterday. Here's my DIY kit

but its probally best to block the rest of the holes in the TIP.

Ok mate; I was checking I'd understood correctly that you were running a leak-down test and not a boost pressure test.
