Help a Taxi Driver

Featured Replies

Fuses are rated to protect the wiring and whatever is in the circuit. If it blows there is something wrong, putting a larger fuse in, will not solve the problem and could ever cause burning, unless something else has been added to the circuit and adds to the total current for all units fed from that fuse.

Agree especially when you double up on fuse amp rating  and a dealer done that.

For the OP and Taxi219, accepted that a digital taximeter needs a permanent live feed. Do they (or any radios, pagers etc mounted) have displays that vary brightness when you operate the side or headlights? If so, then there must be a feed, either power or trigger signal from the lightswitch to the taxi kit. If that is the case, then there may actually be a need for the bigger fuse. I've said this before, but fuses are selected on the basis that the device draws Pamps, and Fuse1 rating < PA <= Fuse2 rating. Accordingly, if the taxi kit is drawing current, there may be a need for a bigger fuse on that circuit.

I would go for a piece of cable - like the ones that hold up a suspension bridge. Obviously a bad earth somewhere? I would invest in a mini torch and forget about it. Being a taxi driver myself this is a pet hate when something doesn't work as it should. But like a wise man said to me once....these sort of problems sort the men from the boys.

Hope thats finally it.

I hope so too. Theres nothing worse than a repair costing you a weeks earnings, AND being off the road not earning at the same time. Double whammy! Given how expensive fuel had been getting, i'm glad i'm not driving the taxi any more.
