High pitched whining

Featured Replies

Morning everyone.

I noticed a very high pitched whining noise on the Octy vRS this morning. I've heard it a couple of times before.

It is just after the engine starts, for a couple of seconds.

any ideas?

Thanks

Could be the secondary air injection system. It pumps extra air into the exhaust after a cold start, to reduce emissions and gert the cat up to temperature quickly.

Do a search for "secondary air" in the "My Maintenance" forum - it should throw up a number of threads describing the various noises you're likely to hear on start-up.

Could it be SWMBO? I do have a similar high pitched whining noise in my car occasionally and that is what I discovered it to be.

HTH.

Yeah, that one is a little easier to locate... with a split eardrum!
