banding wheels

Featured Replies

does anybody know how wide i can go on the front of a favorit?without tyre rub?

wheels will be 14" steels and the tyres will be stretched and the car lowered as far as it will safely go, not for performance for show.

iv seen a couple of cars similar but it doesnt seem that common i mean the steel wheels, but they look good and i like to be different :)

i used 15/7j rims with a 195/45/15 tyer and had no rub. the car was dropped about 40mm at the time.

thanks, im hoping for much wider than that on the back, maybe left maybe about the same on the front. anyone know what size tyres can safely stretch over to what size wheels? oh and can someone explain to me what the 15/7j stuff means? as dumb as i sound lol. thanks

15x7j is 15 inches overall diameter, 7 inches wide, with a "J" section mounting lip, which usually indicates a steel rim.

The tyre manufacturers would recommend that the rim width should be 70 to 95% of the tyre width, so using the 7J rim, you could fit tyres from a 185 up to a 255 section, if you can get a low enough aspect ratio to maintain sensible gearing.

He says the tyres will be stretched, so over 100% of the width ;)

And asks "how wide can you safely stretch a tyre?" which is the question I answered. The answer being "the tyre makers say you can't actually stretch them".

thanks for the feedback, so basically manufacturers say its unsafe? or just not designed for it? or both?

does anyone know what size the steel wheels are as standard off a favorit?

i have seen a 165/35 tyere on a 7 inch rim before. it had to be sealed with some type of mastick, and even then it had to be seated 3 or more times to get a seal. mind you it looked dam cool.

i love the look of stretched tyres, watched videos on youtube of people fitting them at home with deodorant and lighter lol

i wouldnt mind having a go, but dont have the time to do anything at the moment as i live in wolverhampton and work 10 hours a day in birmingham 7 days a week at the moment on a shutdown :/

I have had a 195/45/16 stretched onto a 9x16" wheel on my VR6 both front and back with no issues.

sounds good to me, think it will look saft if i leave the front as standard steels with lower profile and the back wide with stretched tyres?

And would go down as soon as you tagged a kerb or develop a slow if over-cooked a corner. I pulled front beads apart several times on my dad's "Maestro", so I know what I'm talking about from experience.

Sounds like the Icelandic method of mounting a tyre on a snowfield, except that they use lighter fluid. Try searching for "Jeremy Clarkson's Motorworld, episode Iceland".

I'd say yes, but I think big n littles look daft on anything except pure road sports 4wds like Skylines or Sierra 4x4s, or RWDs.

He doesn't?

He asks how wide a wheel can fit on a Felicia and how low he can drop the suspension

yer your dead right, they were on a mk1 gold for show day only.

So the answer would appear to be certainly under "rim = tyre * 1.0775double recurring" for road use then you reckon?
