Brakes!

Featured Replies

Car is in for a service today at the dealer and the mechanic has advised that the front brakes (discs and pads) need replacing and have got around 3k miles left on them. He's said they can supply and fit for 166+VAT. Now, the question is, is it worth replacing them with Skoda items, or should I get uprated ones and get my mate to fit them ;) Only problem I can see with uprated ones is they'd need to sit behind my teeny 14" wheels so I might not be spoilt for choice.

Any advice, as I said I'd get back to them with a decision in a couple of hours?

Thanks all!

Chris

Sort them yourself, more choice and probably a lot cheaper..

Get new standard discs and DS2500 pads, will cost just less than what skoda want, but brake performance will be much improved... 256mm discs on yours aint it? like jasons car.

Yep I think that's about the right size, but if I accidentally buy bigger, that would be a good reason to get bigger wheels. :D

I've told the garage to hold off changing them now as 3k is plenty of time to get it sorted ;) Anyone know the best place to get standard Skoda disks from - parts desk? - and I'll invest in some uprate pads and fluid.....

Thanks for all the input.

Thanks Colin - have dropped them an e-mail about the discs. Any one found a good, reliable, cheap supplier for the Ferrodo's? :)

Chris

For the cheapest, get them from demon tweeks with briskoda discount.. would have been about a tenner cheaper than motorsport world..

BUT i got mine from msw as i needed them sharpish and demon were quoteing a week to deliver, MSW had them to me next day

i ordered from msw over the phone as their ferodo section of the website isnt exactly a friendly place

About Eurocarparts.. they have thier own forum + discount on SCN. ;)

How many miles you done? Ive done 44000 and getting a little worried about my disc thickness check out....

The car's done a shade over 60k miles, but I bought the car with 54k on it so I don't know what state they were in when I bought them. I'll get a second opinion from my mate who's a mechanic before I bite the bullet.... Apparently the rears are worn but have plenty of life in them and new pads.
