Another MFD3 Thread

Featured Replies

Hi Folks sorry if this has been asked a thousand times before but I have searched the forum and web and am still a little unsure. Should be getting my MFD3 tomorrow from ebay seller. Several references have been made to tweaking the Maxidot with VAG-com (which I have) to give me some more display options (compass, id3 tags etc.). Does anyone have a list of the required coding?

Thanks for any advice

You got that MFD3 for a good price, I was watching and deciding wether to bid or not.

It will work out of the box without any tweaks with vag-com. What vag-com is needed for, is to tidy up the ecu coding and tell the car it now has a nav unit and not a stream. The nav unit will work fully without the coding changes (including the maxidot display) but some error codes maybe recorded onto the ecu.

Thanks Mannyo My girlfriend doesn't entirely agree about the good price bit. We are on holiday in two weeks and I hope to prove it's use to her then. :-)

That is a good price, I've been offered a couple recently but they are silly expensive and not really worth considering, I can only assume that they are in short supply at the moment which is keeping prices up.

If you have the latest release of VAG com then the Long Coding Helper will guide you through the coding. Remember to add the controller in the CAN Gateway too.

Likewise, but I objected to the excessive cost of carriage...

Well it arrived and so far so good, I agree the postage was a little high but I offset it against the cost of the unit. All in place now and with the exception of a few radio problems all seems good. I'm going to call the Skoda dealer that I got the trim from though as there is a long cutout down the right hand side of it.

Got one more daft question though. The back of the unit has two aerial connections because as I understand it the unit is a diversity receiver and would normally have two antenna. Is there anyway of getting an antenna to pick up the TMC data? Tried making one temporarily but with slightly iffy results. Additionally I am having trouble locking onto FM signals anyone got any ideas?

Thanks as always

We have tried retrofitting the Diversity but it's not been 100% success however there is somone working on it.

I'm assuming you used the inner of the two antenna connectors which should give you better FM reception but no AM.

Yes, Plug the aerial into the other connection and everything should spring into life.

I can't remember which aerial input I am using but changing to it gained me AM but stopped my station list and also means I have to retune to Radio 1 as I drive around.

I'm looking forward to diversity. ;)

What is diversity and what does it do?

Two antenna - Supposedly gives an optimum signal at all times.

New Octy's now have it.

What is diversity and what does it do?

Basically you have 2 aerials and the head unit switches between whichever gives the strongest signal.

Bum. Beaten to it.:P

You wouldn't understand.:P;).come to mention it neither would i.:D

Ok so I'm gonna have to apologies again for asking daft questions but although the volume control and mute button (re-coded to start voice dialing) on my steering wheel work I can't seem to use the skip and search buttons with the MFD3. Been through all the coding options with VAG-COM and found a tick box for multifunction steering wheel which is already ticked, anyone got any ideas?

The HD seems to be filled with the previous owners music collection, I now have some very entertaining German thigh slapping music to listen too......... and coldplay! :)

Any advice gratefully received

I know in the case of the MF stalk the buttons only have an effect on tracks etc when Navigating.
