Oil Light On Today

Featured Replies

I have had my mkII vRS TDI coming up a year next month , just done 15k on the clock , today the oil warning light came on :o not checked it for a couple of months , anyway went to top it up and poured the last 1/4 of a bottle into the engine thinking it would be enough , drove the car all day then tonight it came back on :confused: i have poured some more oil in but no where near 1/4 of a new bottle & i have checked the dip-stick and it seems to have well enough in now , fingers crossed no more oil light on :D

Anyone else seem to use a bit of oil in their vRS TDI,s :thumbup:

Orange

I was under the impression the light only came on for low oil pressure (which could be caused by a major lack of oil) not low oil

then again i didnt know it could be red or orange

I have had to top mine up a few times now. Although my fabia hardly used a drop. I suppose how it's been driven may affect it's level of useage.

Orange

You're fine the level was just too low.

The newer engines do like to drink a bit of oil and I'd keep a bottle of the right stuff in the boot and check it weekly.

Orange == level

Red == pressure

Different engine and all, but I normally get through a litre between oil changes, so I use up to two litres in 6-8 months. Been much better lately, though... :confused:

The TDI's drink it up to the first service then settle down after that.

I used a L or so before the first service and have put in under 1/2 a L since the second service.

mine petrol vrs has 90.000 km on the clock and it still wants 1 liter between servicing

Its allowed up to 1 litre per 600 miles so think yourself lucky.

Thanks for the replys folks , better think myself lucky getting 15k to a litre of oil :thumbup:

Our first 15000 miles it used nil ,however having now done 28000 its used 1 ltr and a drop from the second bottle.

The dealer I spoke to reckoned that most use about 1 litre every thousand miles!

Mine has used less than 3 litres in 30k...

Mine is about the same, just opened my 4th litre bottle having done over 33K

Thank god for that! Mine was serviced in March at 20K and now i've done 30K I was beginning to wonder if the light wasn't working (and before you all berate me, yes, I just waited on the oil light to come back on, and waited until today to actually open the bonnet to check the 'ol dipstick)

I must have put in about 2L of oil up to the first service, but none since. Phoned the dealer today just to make sure they haven't changed either the oil or the service scheduling and that's all ok (so they tell me).

So, why use all that oil up to the first service and then none after...???

I was a bit scared when I the yellow warning lighted up at around 8K. Then I was told that first km (or miles) are those where engine needs more oil to settle (and the guy who told me does have a Passat TDI).

I needed just 1lt to top it up. Now, at 18K the level is just between min and max of the oil dipstick :D
