In-car Boost Controller help...

Featured Replies

Want one so i can turn down the boost when i get my hybrid (getting hybrid, no remap, just turning down the boost to standard till money brews up again).

But, how and where does it plumb up to?

Ive got a boost gauge tapped into the inlet manifold if that helps.

The boost controllers ive looked at have 3 connectors, but where do they all go?

Thanks, Dave

o, and heres a link of a controller i was looking at....

Right, Reading more into this on the turbosmart website.

You have to vent the boost before the 'throttle body'. But as diesels dont have one, do i just do it before the MAF sensor on the intercooler?

Heres another link, this time its to the pdf guide...

Why fit a hybrid if your not going to have it mapped

where did you run the tubing for the boost gauge any pics?

I know what your saying, but i havent got the money for both, and my turbos going to pop i think!

also, it would give me some control when it is mapped.

Reading that PDF, all you do is find the vacuum hose that controls the waste gate. Plumb in the boost controller so it adjusts the amount of vacuum the waste gate gets, thus adjusting how much boost the turbo makes.

No picys, but i can tell you.

I have my gauge in the right of my windscreen.

I drilled a hole in the dash (behind where the gauge was going to go), and fed it to the fuse box (along with the wiring).

I then took the dash apart and fed it past the steering colom, and got the wires to the back of the head unit.

The tubing goes under the center controls (heating etc). and then behind the glove box.

Drill a gurt hole behind the glove box, or use a gromit if you can see one.

You MUST put a gromit in ANY hole you drill otherwise you could loose boost/start a fire etc.

Then run the hose along the outside of the bulk head to the manifold.

Connect it up. Jobs a gooden.

Thats what i thought Big Dave, but what about where the pressure source is?

Does it have to be before the MAF?

Things are never easy!

I see......If your turbos going then yes you may as well upgrade :D

Not sure about those bleed valve things though?

I think there is only 1 pipe going into the waste gate actuator. So just 'T' into that, you don't need to worry about the other end.

Cheers Big Dave.

You just kindof confirmed what i thought.

How easy is it to get to is my next question!

And is it worth me plumbing my boost gauge up down there, or keep it on the inlet manifold?

Dave

does it matter how long the boost tubing is?

  • Author

Not really. But the shorter the tube, the more accurate the gauge.

Get some pics up sonny jim!

Get some pics up sonny jim!

Need to get a camera that works first!!

You might be better asking someone else for pics rather than me.
