Is it though? Really? It's worth buying that heap for the 'promise' of certain parts that are of unknown history (if they actually exist)?

What's the cost difference between buying that utter pile of whale excrement and buying a new hybrid and FMIC?

  • Author

Aye suppose..

Go on, I'm really curious. For brand new parts with a warranty etc compared to that thing - what we talking?

Please Jason buy your own hybird and IC. Then have them fitted to your car, at least you know what's gone on with it.

Mines plus 1k.

Mines is an 04, 56k

Thats an 05, 50k.

Has IC, Turbo and Remap.

Cost of new turbo, £1000 unfitted, FMIC £550, further Jabba remap £500

So around £2,200 new

Hang on, so the full value of your car plus £1k? Compared to £2,200 for new parts fitted?

Is that correct?

Yes, so a saving of £1200 and a new less mileage car once i sort the looks out

Sorry? How do you work that out?

You chop your car in plus £1000 on top compared to £2,200 for new bits.....how is that cheaper?

Unless your car is only worth about 50p I don't see how that's a saving. Correct me if I've misunderstood what you said.

We were going to swap cars.

The red one is a year newer and has 6k less miles, has the bits on it so its sorted.

So mines plus £1000 makes a saving of £2200-1000 = £1200 and i get a newer less mileage car.

Put it back to standard and Voila

had it been any other fabia, and i mean any other! i'd have said go for it but its so much done to it that is just wrong, this car should never be allowed to exist. its a shame really... poor fabia :(

Hmm....

I doubt it would end there to be honest. Even if you do save £1200 your more than likely spend that correcting all the stuff that's wrong. Say the bottom end's gone from too much thrashing and insufficient oil changes etc. Or even the head needs to be replaced again due to oil starvation. There's easily £1k gone.

OR, it needs a new clutch - again for an organic jobby fitted you're talking over £500. You're eating into that £1200 very rapidly and that's guessing at the obvious stuff that could be wrong. Get into bodywork territory such as if he's driven over a boulder or something and the costs get even worse.

Sorry but his car would need to be way cheaper than that to make it worthwhile, as in the amount required just to buy it for spares As soon as you said that you'd give him your car PLUS some money that made it worse than crazy.

Also, why is he so keen to swap with you? Don't be a mug - walk away from this one.

to be fair, the car is newer with less miles so its going to be worth more in that sense.

the maintenance of a car you will get with any car, not just this one, people assume its not been looked after, just because he's a chav doesn't mean its not had regular services or been maintained properly.

biggest issue for me would be the styling..

bumper - easily fixed

stickers - easily removed

seats - retrim would be required as they are horrid

headlights - need replaced

grill - need replaced

some of these things people like, not me.

i think its wrong for people to assume its a bad car mechanically but the pictures show how badly styled it is.

end of the day jase its your money and your choice, be sure to get it checked over by someone who's mechanically minded before you do any swaps if you decide to go for it.

personally i wouldnt be seen dead driving that thing the way it looks currently but as you said you can change that.

i still say dont do it but feel people are jumping the gun for the wrong reasons in this thread.

Agreed to a point, but the trouble is we've all seen how cars that are treated like this are driven, usually round a shopping centre car park. Also, for other members to comment on the car seen being thrashed down certian roads just reinforces it to me.

We all drive our cars hard but we know that it's important to take care of the car too.

Definitely get the car checked over thoroughly before you buy it for sure as he said /\

Personally I think there's more to it than just age and mileage. It may be newer - it may also be less miles but there's piece of mind and I don't think you can put a price on that.

Certainly you can never know any cars true history when you buy - it's always a gamble, but those ch4vved up photos of the 'diesel dog' give you an insight into this cars past, and not a very pleasant one at that.

At the end of the day Jase it's up to you but the general consensus on here is either a big no no, or if you do go ahead be very very careful.

Also, see if you can strike a better deal. Perhaps a straight swap would be an option as opposed to the extra £1k? You've effectively got some work to do to make the car look normal again - he'll have nothing to do to yours.

I think the biggest question is...

Why does he want your car, if his car is that great.?

Surely he would want to go for something a bit faster than his at the moment.?

Why buy your car so he can fit a Hybrid Turbo & FMIC to yours, why he has that exact car.?

Something sounds a bit wrong there.!

Michael

why would he want a standard car? when he could possibly sell all the bits on his and turn his own back to a basic vrs,it's got to be flocked and if i was doing the deal he'd be giving me the money to drive that monstrousity, spend the money on your own car,how many times you gotta be told man.

I think Jase has now seen the light. ;)

Hope so...!

Oh thats brightened up my afternoon at work i am actually crying i have laughed that much!

... ooo and look its hometime now! - off to wash my grubby car, "summer" my ****! only washed her monday

Just had a blast against a Hybrid Fabia and a wee sprint.

Think i'll be saving my money ;)

Not worth 2k IMO, only around 2 car lengths quicker 30-100 ;) private road of course

Yes its my friends new car.

220bhp, with all the Star bits and bobs, dont get me wrong it was quicker but worth 2k? nah..

I'm glad you've seen the light old bean. Go and spend that £2k on beer and hookers - much more fun. :D
