Those computer readings

Featured Replies

There has been many threads regarding what mpg people get and several times i have said you can only go by keeping records over long periods, however yesterday i done something which i have never done before and am a bit confused. We were at the end of a 85 mile journey and i did notice that the screen was showing 62 mpg but when i pressed the trigger for time and average mpg it showed 38 mpg so what can you make of that. Last night coming home on M25 it took six and a half hours for normal one and a half hour journey so my average figure will really be up the creek, oh by the way i did notice that while sitting the sreen slowly change when we moved from 42 to 26 mpg .:(

did you have it on average mpg or instant mpg? you could always open an account (which is free) with spritmonitor.de to record your fueling and mileage and it will show you your mpg etc and then you can use a link to place it in your sig on here

Hi smstext, there is three readings , one is instant which as you know can go from 9 to 90 mpg and the other constant but steady reading which i use all the time and third is the one where the computer say's temp' time of journey and how many miles to go on refill and average fuel which is the one i spoke about.

There are indeed three readings:

Instantaneous - (which as mentioned varies wildly unless you are on a fixed gradient with fixed throttle)

Displays single digits to triple digits to "---" (too high to calculate) when cruising

Mem 1 - resets after 2 hours with ignition off (or manual overide by depressing stalk under-button for 2+ secs)

Mem 2 - does not reset automatically (unless 99:59 total driving hours exceeded etc, same method to reset with manual overide as Mem1)

The Mem1/2 is toggled by pressing the stalk under-button once quickly (less than 2 secs). A small "1" or "2" is shown in relevant screen modes (ie things like "Range" and "Temp" are Mem independent so don't have a number designation).

I use the Mem2 to log tank returns, so 450-550 miles between fill-ups. A reasonable distance to average over.

yes i use memory 2 for going my mpg and how far per tank calculations and regularly get 500 miles according to the display, but in fact by clicking my sig you will see what ive actually been getting recently even through i started at the start of holiday with lots of driving and motorways to cover. now im just commuting between swmbos, work and home my mpg has shot up again.
