Skoda Felicia 1.3L - Car tries to die when taking foot off accelerator

Featured Replies

ok when im approaching a junction in say 2nd gear when i take my foot off the accelerator to put clutch down the car tries to die, has only been doing this a couple of days but does it in 1st and 2nd gear. I was told it could be a sticky throttle cable, has anyone else had a similar problem before and any ideas of what it could be.

and dont say my driving because a few family members also agree its not quiet right :P

All the time, or just when the engine's cold?

If it's just on a cold engine, with the engine off, make sure the throttle cable is slightly loose with the quadrant against the stop.

Also worth cleaning the throttle body with carb cleaner.

ok but tbh im not quiet sure what parts im meant to be cleaning.

I have like a spring loaded lever coming off the engine with the cable coming off

We're all in the same area of the engine. Your spring loaded lever and cable are what I was talking about, and are attached to the throttle body.

What you need to do is remove the air filter and case, start the engine, and spray the carb cleaner into the hole that's making the sucking noise. Typical Assembly

Jenvey bodies on a manifold Yours should look something like this, but there's only one of it, and no ram pipe (the cone-shaped piece), but there may be a 90 degree adapter.

i've had the same problem, i constatly tweak my carb so when is out of time or out of tune it will happen on 1st and 2nd gear because of lack of power, also sometimes you feel a slight bunny hop and low revs, same reason little power or trying to change from idle to cruise carb gas regulators

Hi to everyone from Turkey :)

i've 98 felicia 1.3 with jikov(pierburg?) carburator.

i recommend you to disassemble every part of your carb. and clean as possible as you can.

its much more effective than using carburator cleaner in my opinion.

also there is a electric cable for idle control at the back side of carburator, look for it may be oxidised.

and one for last.. check your ignition timing if you can , look for ignition advance under load conditions.. may be you have a problem with your vaccum hoses or distributor.

check this link ;

some pictures may be necessary for carburator disassemble shown there.

komple Jikov karbüratör bak?m? & temizli?i

Good call. It's even fun, as long as you can work indoors someplace non-dusty (I used my mum's dining room table [well it was her car I was working on] and lots of newspapers).
