just wondering, as I've just got mine back after its 54k service, and it feels smoother, quieter, easier gearshift ect.... always does... any one else experiance the same? or do you think its psychological ? ....

No i agree it does always feel different.Every time my Mk1 came back from service it was a pleasure to drive after.I haven,t had the Mk2 long enough yet to comment as service is not due yet.

I agree, I dont know if its a placebo effect, but definately feels smother and more refined after a service. BTW i have a pipercross filter so it isnt just a nice new filter. Maybe new oil?

lol.. yeah, its YOUR smoke in my air filter :D

I'll be keeping this car until after I've paid for it, when the warrenties gone, I'll service it myself.....

the mechanic told me to do the front brakes myself, said it would be much cheapeer..... they quoted £100 for pads alone without labour! (the did last over 50k though...) I found some OE ones from a parts website for £58, no special tool needed, just one bolt off the calipers, and a big clamp to sqeeze the pistons back in  job done.... they still haven't actually worn out yet though...

I've always serviced my car myself and I think they do feel much better to drive afterwards :)

This one had a full service just before I bought it in January so don't know about this one, but it'll certainly feel alot better when I've changed the brakes, or actually fitted some to the car...

My car always seems to sound smoother after having its' oil changed.

I know at the 80k service when the plugs, oil were changed the car sounded a lot beter and its still a joy to drive.

My sisters Micra certainly sounds a lot better after that had an oil change and the plugs changed.

Mine always feels smoother after an oil change. How much of that is psychological though is another matter . . .

Afraid i am going to have to buck the trend, I have allways found any car worse to drive after a service :( (and after swmbo as driven it as well)

My cars have been fine both before and after a service. How do you fix it if it's not broke :)

can we please have a 'never really noticed' option?

Thanks

I wouldn't say miles better.

You'd certainly hear it sounding rougher if you missed a service.

I know my old Astra started sounding a tad rough after overshooting a service interval by maybe 1000+ miles

i think the car sounds rougher before the service. once you got new oil, filter, sparks, air filter all in you have basically removed products that have gained 20k miles worth of crude so its basically like going back to a brand new car but run in of course.

:)My cars always feel much better when serviced....which includes setting valve clearances, changing points and condenser, setting timing and fuel mixture, greasing water pump bearings, greasing and adjusting kingpins, lubricating and adjusting clutch bearing, repacking the front hubs with grease ect.....

It's almost a days work to service an old Skoda properly!

No, but my wife does.

No, but my wife does.

Iwas going to say it always felt 'tighter', but now that might be seen as some sort of crude joke!
