iPod with Stream mp3?

Featured Replies

Hi folk's,

This my first post here so go easy on me!

I've had a quick search for this but didn't quite find the answer I'm after.

Anyway, does anyone know if it's possible to get an iPod interface with the Stream mp3 H.U. that will show song names/albums etc. on the screen?

It would also be good if it kept the iPod charged.

Thanks for any info.

Cheers, RDX :)

I believe Dension do a product that will do what you ask (search in the ICE forum should bring it up). I think they do 2 products, one that ineffect replaces the CD changer and another (more expensive) one that works alongside the cd changer. Hope this helps

The "official" Skoda unit (see - ?koda Accessories) is produced bu Dension.

If you do a search on here you'll find loads of related posts....

Or the cheaper GROM unit:

iPod Digital Interface, [GROM-I] - £40.85 : Carputer-Shop, Automotive Audio Connectivity

Either way I believe all you will see is "Track 1" etc as it uses the CD changer interface which does not dsiplay Tags.

There is another unit (fogotten it's name) that plugs into the aerial that does display track info through RDS, but in that case you cannot control the Ipod using the radio commands, so not perfect either...

Thanks for the replies, but none of these units let you see the song/album names on the screen of the Stream HU.

I know the Stream MP3 can do it from mp3 CD's internally. It would be great to do it from an external source (iPod/USB stick etc.).

Anyone know if it's possible?

Anyone............please?

No. The only input that can be used is the 3.5mm jack or the CD Changer, neither of which carry track info to the Stream MP3 unit.

As I said it is a choice of controlling though the stereo but not seeing track details, or controlling through Ipod and transmitting track info to the FM radio through RDS (such as with the Kensington unit Kensington RDS FM Transmitter/Car Charger for iPod).

Thanks Scouter,

That's a bummer! :thumbdwn:

Looks like a new HU then if you want full control. It's a shame because it can obviously do it from a CD.

D'oh!

You might like to try the Harmon Kardon drive+play. I've used it in several cars, and it's very good.

More details (and a good price) can be found here:

If you go for the drive+play2, then you get USB mass storage capability as well, but it's quite a bit more expensive.

Thanks Bagpuss, that looks very interesting.

I see Alpine also make something similar with a remote control.

Looks like a good solution. Thanks again, I didn't know they even existed!

Have you got a photo of an Octavia II install? Wondered if the display would fit in the ashtray?
