Very poor performance on Fabia vRS

Featured Replies

had exactly same problem egr valve all clogged up they cleaned it out and drilled a larger diameter hole inside it,cured it anyway..

I have a fully working EGR valve sitting here, 04 reg 45k miles.

Posted for £60 ?

A couple of possible causes.

The turbo cannot make the boost pressure (knackered turbo (running 1.7 bar I wouldn't be suprised) or a leak somewhere.

The turbo is making the boost by the ECU is reading it wrong (faulty pressure sensor)

The EGR is stuck open, this then would be diverting exhaust gas away from the turbo back into the inlet. (quite likely given the other code).

I had a new turbo only 6k ago so surely it can't be that.

Mine is top notch on the power delivery until 2500rpm, then after this it really seems to hold back, it still accellerates but it creeps up, not what it used to do.

How easy is the egr valve to look at/remove? is it a five minute job? and is it easy to clean?

I had a new intercooler with the turbo but can't seem to hear any hissing, perhaps I should take off the wheel arch and have a look/listen?

Is it Ok to drive say up a dual carriageway with the MAF unplugged just to see if there is any difference?

If it is the EGR, what is the cost of a valve?

Yes. It might light the CEL, abut won't do any harm. Performance should be lousy with it unplugged.

I'll give it a go tomorrow morning then just to see. :)

Just had a go with the MAF disconnected and it drove like a bag of poo, so it ain't that?

Hi again

I now tried to have a look at the EGR valve and it looked like this.

I saw there was quite i bunch of soot which i removed and assembled things again - is this amount of soot normal?

I then saw that the pipe from the air filter box was broken, so I replaced it - see picture. I have no idea if that can have such a huge impact on performance. Does anybody know about that.

I then took the car for a spin and it felt better, so I took it for a motorway test drive and it maxxed out at 235km/h (on speedometer) as I have seen - is this top speed possible with a broken turbo?

The car pulls as always above 3000rpm, but much weaker below.

The engine still vibrates a lot when I turn it off (is if it tries to continue running), and I have been thinking about wheter a faulty EGR valve could cause this problem? I mean that if it is a little bit open all the time, the fumes or diesel residue from the exhaust will enter the engine and act as a kind of fuel:confused:

Thanks in advance.

If it struggles to turn off it could be your anti shudder valve which is related to your EGR valve, i'd whack a new EGR on and take it from there

Pardon me but what is the anti shudder valve?

Pardon me but what is the anti shudder valve?

It works off the EGR so when you turn off the ignition the car turns off nicely...

Ive replaced my EGR valve with a Allard Bypass so im now missing the Anti shudder valve the EGR supplies so when i turn the car off the engine sortov stalls.

So your engine turning off rough could possibly indicate a knackered EGR valve

:thumbup:I really hope that too

Hi All

Since I have been on a 3 week trip to the US I haven't had the possibility to tell you what caused the poor performance.

My mechanic found out that a rodent had been biting a hose to the waste gate, which caused a turbo-bypass at low revs, but not a large enough hole to cause any problems at higher revs.

My guess is that the hole has been there for a while and suddently cased the hose to "explode". The reason for my guess is that there seems to be more grunt at lower revs than before. This is indicated by a small amount of wheel slip in second gear when flooring it from idle - of course going in a straight line on dry tarmac. It wouldn't do this before the repair and when it still seemed ok.

So now I am the happy owner of a fast (perhaps faster?) Fabia vRS again

So my question is: Why do the use plastic/rubber softeners based on animal fat?

My exhaust manifold burned a hole through that same pipe with the same result. :D It came unclipped from the usual clips, and it had been lying on the manifold steadily melting away.
