Please Help !!!! SKoda 1.9SDI cutting out

Featured Replies

I have a problem with my skoda 1.9sdi, I can be driving along in any kin d of traffic and the car just cuts out, and fails to restart. If i sit for a few minutes the car will start up again and drive ok

The temperature seems fine and there is oil in the engine. I have felt the radiator and only the top pipe seems warm the bottom one is cool and the radiator is still touchable.

seems to happen more in when the weather is warmer. can do 45 miles in the mornign no problems when its cold.

Any ideas

When was the fuel filter last changed? This sounds like a fuel vapourisation problem, and a clogged fuel filter's the only thing I can think would give those sorts of symptoms on a diesel.

Sounds like an X relay problem. Do a search on here for relay 109, which may shed some light on the problem.

does the relay 109 problem occur on sdi as well as TDI

I thought 109 relay was main power relay that cut out car permanently until new revised one was fitted.I think maybe fuel related as Ken says.Check/replace your fuel filter.

Relay 109 can go intermittent. They fail as they warm up.

You can very often re-solder the joints in a relay. Remove the plastic outer cover and look very carefully at the board. If you see a very fine square crack forming around a joint then simply re-solder it.

Many fuel pump relays fail this way, and I've repaired loads of them.......

I can,t remember where i saw it but there is a forum that done this fix with photos too but i can,t find it at the moment.

where are the relays located , i really must get a haynes manual

relay 109 is up under the steering column I think. a quick search on here should give the answer.... iirc it is called the 109 relay as it has 109 written on it. normally either white or gray (again iirc).
