any one clean their own car

Featured Replies

as I live in a apartment I have my fabia3 cleaned by a east european crew,. jet wash ,soap, rinse, leather ,windows inside & out ,door shuts and wheels and tyres all for £6. gives the lads a living, bargain price for customer. Is it now worth buying all the cleaners using water on meter time etc when you can get a good job for this money?

Look carefully at your paint and you will see little swirls all over it from them using a sponge and chamois.

Add to that the limited protection added and the fact that the wash will include a TFR I think it's onto a loser.

No one gets near my octy with a sponge and bucket except me.

All that grotty water and gritty sponges on my paint, no chance. :thumbdwn:

onto a looser.

after all the education we've tried to give you in another thread ... sigh

Just think of what a proper wash and dry costs from a real valeter and you'll see the difference... well, maybe not now...

By the sounds of it it sounds like your car now needs £200-300 worth of correction work done to the paint :(

Oh dear the cardinal sin is being commited.

Sponges !!!!!!

I always wash and clean my own car. My paint work isn't the best as it's covered in stone chips and looks like it's seen it's fair share of car washes before I bought it but I still insist on doing it myself. I get alot of pride from seeing my hard work even if it isn't perfect.

I too am on a water meter and find my water bill is still cheap with 2 cars to wash.

wow you are putting me straight, problem is living in a apartment( flat) bought a magic sucking brush and bucket useless ,any one else tried these and found them ok looked great on telly shopping!!!

I clean mine personally and havent seen swirl marks from sponges and chamois.

I only really do the door shuts when I'm doing an interior clean.

When I used to live by myself in a flat, I used to clean my car every Sautrday morning. Two-bucket method, no worries. Time wasn't an issue and while I didn't go as far as some on here, I had time to spare and the cost of the cleaners / polishes wasn't too bad spread out over the weeks. Nowadays, I realise the car's just a means of transport and the grime just hides the chips and dents! ;):D

Get two buckets, a wash mit, and some shampoo and go down to your local jet wash :)

Yeah but if you cant be arsed £6 is a bargain!

Are these workers VAT registered?

Takes a lot of £6 carwashes to reach the £64000 threshold (1.2 every hour, 24 hours a day, 365 days per year) - although I don't think that's what you were getting at! ;):D

You reckon they'll be turning over £70000 per annum?

Off to buy a pressure washer. Car wash, anybody? :P

£70 grand is it now? I know what I'll be doing as a little sideline now I have a bit of time free during the week! :D

Oops - actually 67k - 70k is the distance selling threshold apparently.

Personally I've had my October 06 Octy estate since February, it wasn't nice when I got it, though not awful. When I got the chance I clayed it and then gave it a good coat of Mequires, followed by a couple more careful washes and re-polishes. OK so some heavy-duty sponge action could leave the paint marked, and TFR (traffic Film Remover) can be a bit harsh. But its horses for courses.

Mine was an ex rental car, so it probably never hade much more than a jet-wash and rinse in its life, since those three applications of polish and the clay treatment I have only had to really rince it down and towel it off with microfibre drying cloths to keep the shine and the water beading effect of the polish. It has an extra 14,000 miles on it now and has on one occassion been through the car wash and been jetwashed a couple of times. TBH I don't have a lot of time to clean it and often get it filthy at weekends needing to get it presentable again on a Sundy evening for work. Currently it is pretty grimy with the weather we have had recently, but all I need to do is give it a quick wash this w/e and it'll be fine. I will probably give it a damn good polish before winter, and another one in the spring. This seems to work for me, in fact I took it to Toulouse about 6 weeks ago through an almighty thunderstorm and it came out the other side cleaner than it went in.

Not all of us aspire to a show car finish, the fact that mine is sliver and hides some of the filth probably helps, though I just can't stand having a car where the rain water just lies flat on the paintwork.

Oh, and my top tip is to wash it in the rain then the rain water rinses it not nasty hard tap water - less, or no, drying spots :)

c*ck, ******** and b*ggary... Trust me to do that :(

Slaps self a few times and has corrected the offending post.

He may however have been onto somebody who was undoing their belt due to the fat put on from eating all the food on the back of the profits made from the quick wash business.

b*ggary

 I'm no expert, but it's b*ggery:rolleyes:

:rofl: Guess I walked into that. (or backed into it:eek:)

Your supposed to wash the car?:o

I'm same, only me wash's my car. Certainly wouldn't let some Pol's near it with a sponge.

I live in a 4th floor flat. I have no problem washing the car near enough every weekend. 2 bucket method etc etc.

No way would I let anyone else clean it!
