No dump valve?

Featured Replies

Ive seenon plenty of posts that our 1.8ts need to run recirc valves otherwise the ecu throws up a fault code to do with not enough air.

Although its a completely different car, my friend who has an evo4, runs with no DV and gets a lovely wastegate chatter fro the turbo (rally stylee :D), and has had reliable info that it wont harm the turbo.

A stupid question now, but is this achievable by runnin no DV on our engines, or possibly s stronger spring on the forge 007p?

Do the CAI or Induction kit with the 007P and you will get some noise

Safe running , better throttle response and the sound

Just what you want , but will be in harmony with your engine

I think a lot of these Jap cars run the HKS sequential dump valves with two pistons. Mate of mine has one on a Celica and under normal gradual acceleration when he lifts off he gets the compressor stall "chatter" but under harsh acceleration when he lifts off he gets the proper "tssch" of it dumping to the atmosphere.

The HKS is an atmospheric valve though so wouldn't work properly on our cars :(

If you desperately want an atmo DV you can have one, but you'd need to fit and map a new EMS to do it.

Something like an HKS intercept EMS could probably be made to work, but at a price, about £800 for the EMS, £100 for an HKS atmo DV, and perhaps Sarah could provide an estimate for developing a map from scratch? An HKS base map (not that there is one for the 1.8T AFAIK) plus customisation runs in about the same as a custom map for a VAG car.

Oooh blimey , you would be looking at custom remap with that

They would be approx £550 ish + VAT

I would do the induction and 007p for sound , cheapness etc.But then , it would not suit everyone I suppose

Sarah

Cheers Sarah, but I meant actually from scratch, unless the HKS has the same number of load points as the standard VAG unit.

Already have hun. Cos i was the bugger who took up hours of your guys time, when my ecu packed up when you tried putting the trial remap on :D

I turned the 007 back to the normal way round cos the "ting" was doing my head in, and now i get more of a traditional tssh. I get the chatter sound occasionally when i lift off slowly....sounds so sweet

hi mate,i was running a GO FAST BITS hybrid recirc/atmos valve for years with no probs,it recirc 50%of the air back in the intake and 50% to atmos.:)

I'm perfectly happy with the noise my DV makes. You can hear it tssch a little bit and that's fine for me. Anything else just sounds a bit naff IMO, although I did used to like the subtle chirp that the Impreza WRC cars used to make.

To be honest i wish i never spent money on a dv

Iv got a Forge SplitR on my octy,i fitted my Carbonio first of all then took it for a spin, great sound, pulled a lot better too

Next day i fitted my dv,after doing this i took it for a spin,it didnt pull as well and the sound of the Carbonio wasnt as loud

Yesterday i set up the dv to be fully recirc took it for spin and the induction roar has come back and the car feels livelier again and picks up better

Had a Atmo DV on my coupe turbo, soon got bored of the tschh when shutting off. Also when your doing 70mph on the motorway and its dumping all the time.

Are you sure? At a constant 70 mph the only thing "dumping" air should be the wastegate not the diverter of dumpvalve?

There's something wrong there; wastegates and DVs should only act to relieve overboost situations, so effectively on high throttle lift-off and/or gearshifts.

Bad proff-rotting!

This thread has me well confused.

Does an atmospheric DV deffo cause a diagnostic fault on the VRS?

I`ve had a R5 GT Turbo and a couple of Subaru`s and all had a atmospheric DV fitted with no probs.

Both Subarus had re-circ valves as standard, the returns to the air box are simply blocked off so the air dumps through the valve rather than being silently re-circed back to the air box, more to do with cabin comfort imo.

Any how,the DV will dump anytime there is pressure in the intake system, when you let of the throttle,so long as the turbo has started to spin up,ie@3000RPM it will only slightly dump,at 6000RPM it will propper dump.

At 70 MPH on a motorway it will only dump when you have had the turbo spin up,but it will not be that noticable as you`re engine will only be doing say 3500RPM.

The wastegate opens when max boost is reached,so the pressure dos`nt keep increasing and blow the engine up.

All a DV does is release the air into the atmosphere which would otherwise re-circ to the airbox/intake system creating a whoosh or flutter, depending on which valve is fitted, but thats another discussion!

Some cars don`t tick over correctly with a DV fitted, but i think these probs are overcome with twin piston DV`s,again, another discussion.

Can somone please clarify the prob with a Atmospheric DV on the Mk1 VRS before i actually fit one.............................:thumbup:

Hi

The DV you have is a diverter valve

It relys on the air circulating back round

If the air is not there , then it can register as a boost leak somewhere withing the warning lights

I know someone who lives near me , he went to a so called Audi specialist

They put him an atmo valve on

he did not even make it home and he got a warning light on and limp mode

So he had a SplitR put on , warning light left and no more limop mode

No , sorry no atmos on this engine
