Featured Replies

That's a very good tip there. helped me get the data off a laptop once.

IIRC, you'll only get one shot with this technique on NTFS drives - sure read that somewhere

Yep, you have to be quick. One of those USB to IDE converters is very useful- you can quickly connect the drive to another PC and copy data off.

ColGod™ diagnosis... its f00ked!

Hard drive is clicking like a ******* and playing havoc with the IDE bus..

She wouldnt let me..

After showing her a youtube vid on how they actually work, she thinks they are cute and has taken the broken one home with her to mourn its death...

Good job she'd never heard of the IBM deathstars

3.5 or 2.5 inch drive?

Depending on which is is depends on wether I have access to items to remove the data.

I have a stack of them at work so might try swapping the pcb over for ****s n giggles.

you could try installing the HD in another machine and, with a bit of luck, you may be able to read and copy data off it.

Failing that you'll need to pay someone to recover your stuff.

No-Recovery, No-Fee Data Recovery

Sounds like the read heads have crashed (they look like the needles on a set of decks). Usually quite a simple job for them as long as the heads haven't banged into the platters.

If you are replacing the drive (or getting someone to do it) be very gentle with the old drive as the heads might not have parked.
