M1 beyond Birmingham northbound - what's it like?

Featured Replies

It's rubbish up here. There's nothing for people from the south, so don't bother coming up here as there is nothing to see, the people aren't as developed as those in the south and it rains all the time.

Stay down there with all the beautiful people - even though you pay a heck of a lot more to live there and are all squashed in together - and definitely don't come to Scarborough, it's way too backwards.

Try the Periphique at rush hour

Or the ring road around Paris which has quite a similar name (Peripherique.)

Steve your the spell meister

Whats a "motorway"? I live in Norfolk and we don't seem to have them. Also I thought Birmingham and London were mythical places like Scotland

Scotland is a mythical place - merely a figment of your imagination, well it certainly is to some by the sounds of it.

On a serious note; iv'e visited England more time than I care to remember, what does fascinate me is the number of people who haven't visited Scotland - you should try it sometime, it is really rather pleasant. Remember to get your passport stamped too.......

I used to have a mate lived in Scarborough......................his mum and sister were the same person:confused::confused::confused:

First of all, please forgive this 'not very well travelled' southerner for my lack of knowledge about the north of England:O.

I live near the M1, and have always thought of it as the main route from London to Birmingham (and vice-versa), but just now, out of interest, I followed it on the atlas and found that it goes past Birmingham and on to distant destinations (to me).

Near the end, it has some serious (and unusual) bends, and it seems to join to the A1. It looks like it may be possible to reach Edinburgh if you keep going too - correct?

So, please, anyone who has gone beyond Birmingham, what is the road like? Does it look different - and what can you see on either side? What is the surface like? Is the traffic heavy or lighter than the London to Birmingham stretch? And what happens at the very very end?

Any info appreciated - it looks really interesting on the map and my interest is piqued.

Cheers, Ian

To put it plainly, Yorkshire, Gods country

Did anyone mention the leprachauns?

Just tried to find some aerial views of the Mythical "land of the Scot" on Google maps. First attempt resulted in a computer lockup and subsequent crash, but not to be swayed, I re-booted and tried again. Well, I could not see much when I zoomed in - just an obscured, featureless mass :surprised. Are the powers that be hiding something from us? Worryingly, I can find more detail in parts of rural Russia than in Scotland....

I could just make out some black circles and a mysterious dark green patch - enigmatic to say the least. Straining to find any detail, I was reminded of the NASA moon photos that supposedly have been tampered with to hide some evidence of artificial structures.

The truth is out there....:P:)

The myterious dark green thing was surely the Loch Ness Monster!

"The myterious dark green thing was surely the Loch Ness Monster!"

Possibly, but it was shaped more like a slug....:D

I have just spent some more time looking at that mysterious land on Google, and I have found some more unusualness.

Firstly, I was fascinated by a place called "Pitullie". Looking at Google, it seems that it is situated at the junction of sea and sky. I am trying to imagine it - half envelped in a mystical fog, faery music heard on the breeze and whispering voices calling my out name. Moss covered arches and ruins of an ancient civilisation may be found. Those who travel to seek mythical Pitullie return with wonderous and sometimes unbelievable stories.

Secondly, there was a strange red fog on the top of what may be a hill - like Mount Doom in Lord Of The Rings:eek:.

Perhaps they were originally from Whitby, that sort of thing is much more common there.:D

The NORTH, no place for an Octavia Sport driver, as we have real roads up here :)

even through a scout would be even better with the size of the pot holes ;)

That is true

ooooppp norf we have " The Jeremy Kyle Show " For all your DHSS Inquiries :)

Up North on the M1 you now don't have any Cooling Towers to welcome you :(

you also need a passport and vaccines from your doctor. if you decide to use the ferry across the river mersey they have a nice selection of duty free aboard so top up on your fags n booze in a cheap crossing ;)

Thats about the same time the surface turns to cobbles isnt it?

Nah, that's nearer Leicester. You'll know when near, as they offer altitude sickness pills and tetanus shots.

has anyone mentioned rabies injections for going up north yet?

You've got that well and truly backwards. Rabies is more common in warmer climates, so we should get rabies shots before going down to the deep South. Do you still grow cotton down there? ;)

Is that Bryan Faery :rofl::P

Not since Brown said using Northern slave labourers to pick it was illegal.

Who knew.:ne_nau:
