Tyre Query

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have been offered 2 Michelin tyres 205,45,16 83V. Not sure if these are OK as I think standard they are 83W.

Question is will these be OK and would insurance still be valid ?

Cheers

The only difference is the speed rating. Is the size right, I thought the 16" wheels on either the Octy or Fabia were 205 55 16?

Thanks for reply....size is spot on, I was just concerned at the speed rating "V"...although this is ample for the car they did come with "W" as standard

V - 150mph *

W - 168mph *

I can't see any need for W

* This indicates the maximum speed that the tyre can sustain for a ten minute endurance without coming to pieces and destroying itself, your car, the car next to you and anyone else within a suitable radius at the time - Car Bibles : The Wheel and Tyre Bible Page 1 of 2

Totally agree, they were "W" from the factory though were'nt they ??

To be fair as long as the tyres are rated above your cars maxium book speed plus a bit I can't see you having an issue.

What version is the fabia you have? For example a 1.2 is never going to hit 150mph or even near it so it will be fine.

Its a VRS.

Can't see that hitting 150mph for a 10 min period unless you have major mods and a good run on the German autobahns planned (or your own private test track)

I agree you should be fine as all the stats I see state 127/128mph max speed, check your book, but if that is the case then obviously 150mph is greater than this with a good margin.
