Driver window dropped

Featured Replies

Hi,

It looks like I've got a reasonably common problem in that my driver door electric window has dropped. From most of the posts it looks as if the regulator has gone and i'll need a new one (prising the panel open I can see that a plastic clip at the bottom of the glass has broken) , but in the mean time i'm left with a problem as I can't get the window closed.

I've removed the door card and the bolts holding the metal panel in place, but without removing the glass I can't get it out. I don't seem to be able to get the glass out as it's snagging on something behind the panel. Chicken and egg springs to mind.

Any one know how I can get the glass up enough so I can wedge it in place untill I can get the new regulator?

Cheers,

Mike

Can you not pull on the glass until its in the closed position and duck tape it in place.

Note... I believe the regulator is attached to that metal panel and will need to be in the closed position for you to remove the panel fully.

Also a regulator will cost you £71.98 from your dealer (that's what they quoted me for my failed passenger side one anyway.)

Unfortunately not, it seems to be stuck on something when I try to lift it. But because I can't get in there to see what I'm somewhat dubious about trying to force it up.

Any ideas on what it could be snagged on and more importantly, how to get it freed up?

Have you removed the two M6 screws that hold the glass? If not there are 2 black plastic / rubber discs in the regulator panel, remove the discs and pull the glass up until you see the 2 hex headed screws, release the screws and the glass should be free.

Ah, there you see is the problem. I can't lift the glass high enough to get to the screws as it's jamming on something. I don't know if I pull on it realy hard if it will come up or break. Because I don't know what it's snagged on I sort of stuck.

Are there any other ways to get the glass out intact?

Ok, not sure how but i've managed to get the window detached from the carrier. I've not yet managed to get the carrier out, but i'll raise another thread for that.

The problem was that the front guide was sticking at about 1/3 the way up. No matter what I did I couldn't get it past that point. Peering in through the tiny gap it looked like the plastic thingy at the bottom was stll intact on that guide, but was definitely broken on the other one.

I managed to free the carrier enough that I could get the the retaining clamp screw on that guide and managed to get it undone and a lot of jiggling got the back one off.

I now have a slightly more weather proof car now that the window is taped in the up position.

Thanks to the guys who tried to help.

the door latch is connected to the metal panel u need to remove the door lock there is a small hole which a very small t20 torx screw is that removes the lock the the larger 10 or 12 m splines that hold on the latch then the whole lot comes out and yes duck tape the window up during this !

You dont need to remove the door lock if you poke the plastic rivets through that hold the bracket onto the regualtor.

yeh but u tried getting them back in ! lol although they wouldnt need to be in place its just one of these things that they put on that isnt reely needed. ??

I stick the bracket in the b1n. It serves no purpose other than when they are assembled at the factory.

yeh i take it thats wot there reely for ! sounds good its just a bit feked up if uv never saw it b4 !
