CO2 emissions of 1.8 TSI DSG

Featured Replies

Skoda website listing as 195, brochure is listing as 168...a huge difference (percentage of cars value to be taxed moves from 27% to 21%)....can anyone shed any light on which is correct?

Obviously makes a huge difference to myself as a company car driver, in fact I have just put in a quote request but will have to look elsewhere if the figure turns out to be 195.

I hate replying to my own thread....however I've just checked the Vehicle Certification Agency website and they are listing the 1.8 DSG as 195 for CO2....what an almighty **** up!

I wonder how many company car drivers have studied the brochures and plumped for this car based on such a low CO2 figure...looks like they may be going to get a nasty sting in the pay packet; an additional £45/month for a 40% tax rate payer.

Anyone know any more?

What car have it as 180 Co2 (g/kg), but it seems that the new Superb has ended up with all the older Engines & this is probably because of cost to Skoda, for example:

1.8 TSI but not the 1.8 T FSI which has better fuel economy & lower emmisions (170 Co2).

2.0 Tdi PD but not the 2.0 Tdi Cr Lump which has better everything posted here in several threads.

I think we have to live with the fact that VW/Audi group will always have the latest engines in the more so called "Premium" brigade & us mere mortals will only see them when they have been out for a few years!

I'm still amazed at BMW having a 2.0 litre in their 318i putting out an average of 47.9 MPG & 142 Co2 - compare that to VAG's 1.8 TSI & its just a joke.

The CR engine is pretty much bang up to date, and the 140bhp engine will eventually be phased into using CR injection.

Hi Dan,

Just getting our account manager to check the figures. We've got a lot of car drivers who will be really ****ed off if the 195 g/km is correct (which I think it is).

Just got word from our account manager.

The Superb product manager confirms that the correct CO2 figure is 168 g/km.

Apparently, the factory provided incorrect data initially, and the new figures are now being communicated to the various agencies that need to know.

This should filter through to both CAP and the government soon.

Hope this helps,

Bagpuss.

Popped into my local dealer this morning...suffice to say chocolate fireguard comes to mind, how they ever sell a car I do not know! They seem to have no interest let alone passion for cars/Skoda.

Customer services more helpful, lady put me on hold and spoke to someone in technical department, quickly came back and confirmed it is 168, however phoned back this afternoon and asked for a name to put against this and they refused, a bit worrying really. Reassured you got the same answer though.

Have you ordered by the way? I've just put a request in for a 1.8 DSG Elegance with metallic, flappy paddles, heated washer jets and park assist. Fingers crossed it comes in OK against our benchmark car.

Am I right in thinking that Park Assist includes front sensors and hence I shouldn't request separately?...again the dealer didn't have a clue.

Dan

It is 168g k/m on the manual 1.8TSi.

Just had a call from customer services, again confirming 168, story matched with Bagpuss' above so all seems OK!

Dan

Park assist does include front parking sensors

Thanks Bagpuss

I know. It's quite disappointing really. The dealer experience is so variable. My supplying dealer is very clued up on the new car, but my local dealer is still thrashing about in the dark.

I have to say that I'm still surprised that the DSG has lower emissions figures than the manual, but I've checked it with our account manager, customer services and retailer support. The french and german Skoda websites also say the same thing, so they can't all be wrong.

I actually confirmed my order with the leasing company nearly 3 weeks ago, but the dealer only got it today. Not sure why it took three weeks to fax over a piece of paper, but there you go. I'm a bit pi**ed off actually, as I was expecting to get the car mid-October, and it won't be ready now until sometime in November.

Whatever model you order, I'm sure you won't regret it.

Bagpuss.

Thanks guys. Fancied the 1.8 DSg myself.

I was under the impression the DSg was lower emissions, and thats confirmed it. Also only appears on paper about 2-3mpg worse economy wise c/w manual.

I think Skoda have made a mistake on CO2 figures for the 1.8Tfsi

Superb 1.8 manual 180 with combined 37.2mpg

1.8 DSG 168 with 34.4mpg i.e. it uses more fuel on all 3 cycles but gets a better CO2 rating, how does that work?

Look at VW's Passat figs

Passat 1.8 TFSi 180 combined 37.2mpg

with DSG box 195 CO2 and 34.4mpg

Exactly same mpg but higher CO2 as you would expect

I think the first owners of Superb 1.8 DSG will get a shock when they see the CO2 figure on their V5

The passat is a different car, different weight, different drag, possibly different gearing, different suspension and so on. Apart from the engine, unlike the original superb the current one is not based on the passat at all.

Its quiet possible for the engine to produce less CO2, in a manual the gearchange is wasted however with the DSG less time is wasted changing gear.

I agree with your thoughts exactly....how can it burn more fuel yet emit less CO2?

However I chased this up, Bagpuss likewise and Skoda absolutely insist that 168 is the correct figure.

As I said in my original post for a company car driver the difference is large, equating to an £500+ extra in tax a year (for a 40% payer).

On a purely Thatcherite note, I'll be OK because I'm having the 170 diesel as the lease costs were too high on the DSG.

Just to follow up my last post, I have just checked on the governments website (VCAcarfueldata.org) and the CO2 has been changed from 195, not to 168 but to 165

This (if I've read the tables correctly) lowers the DSG on company car tax even further.

Dan

Further to Dan123's post, this also should mean that if these are the 100% official figures then the VED band drops down one from £170 to £145 - I wonder if Skoda will amend their "On The Road" price...........
