Turbo studs

Featured Replies

got myself a serious issue this morning,

have a full zorst system to fit, so started loosening the bolts on my turbo, only 1 of the studs has sheared flush with the exhaust mount,

has anyone else had this at all?

i guess all i can really do is put it into a garage and let them remove my turbo, drill out the stud and fit a new one?

absolutely bricking it!!:thumbdwn:

would use a good inde not a main dealer for that... trip to lummox would sort it....

really considering doin the work myself, i imagine the hardest thing will be removing the sheared stud. ive got plenty of drills and bolt removing tools at work

does anyone have experience on how easy it is to remove the turbo? and how long it takes

im a helicopter engineer anyway so i wouldnt have thought it will be too hard, its just a confidence thing i guess (im not scared about breaking things at work because it wont cost me money)

thing is i really dont want to have to take my car off the road!

What you'll need to be carefull of is breaking another stud, one that holds the manifold to the head. You'll be proper up **** creek then.

I'd use some good penetrating fluid on the studs and leave them for a while to soak.

You'll probably want to order new gaskets as well.

ive got the gasket for the exhaust side, guess ill have to order 1 from the manifold side as well. thinking that maybe if i heat the suffounding area up around the stud it might help loosen it off! not sure as of yet

right a quick update now, was working on my car 6pm-2am friday night, which got my turbo removed, 2 studs replaced, and then the turbo refitted,

then about 4 hours tonight which now leaves me rolling with a turbo back exhaust,

well what can i say, it sounds absolutely brilliant! only thing now if i did about a 10mile trip in it earlier, and my average mpg was 15, ouch!

i guess the novelty will wear off over time!!!

Well done i hate working late on my car, i seem to break more than i fix.
