New Clutch for Dyson - fitting help needed

Featured Replies

Seeing as I got some excellent advice about my washing machine, I thought I'd have a go regarding my old battle scarred Dyson DC04.

It's been in the family for nearly a decade and has a lot of sentimental value. It was there with me cleaning up plaster rubble and countless tons of brickdust. And it's never let me down, apart from just before the warranty ran out and it threw a 7, Then the Dyson man came out and replaced most of the parts.

Anyway, my dilema is this; I've secured a new clutch for the Dyson, however, try as I might and after nearly breaking all my fingers, I can't seem to get the new belt over the brushbar. is there a knack to it?

Yes, get a man in with small fingers.

Or, think of a hoover as a highly entertaining gadget. You will surely be trawling the web for a new one before you can say, I like to dress up like Queen in the 'I want to break free' video.

HTH :)

Only done one I think...just strong fingers needed I seem to remember unless you have something that can help grip and pull without damaging the rubber. Personally...Dyson's are crap and wouldn't touch them again.

Screwdriver between belt and brush bar, lever a bit and then try and slide it over ?

Place belt in warm to hot water to make it more pliable / stretch just that little bit ?

Do more exercises ? :P

On a DC01 I took the bar out put the belt around it, put the belt around the motor pin then stretched the belt by pulling the bar into position.

I have to say that I really like meile hoovers but they don't seem to do a bagless one :(

Loop some strong string through belt and pull

I've managed it! I used Val's screwdriver technique, my cycling gloves to avoid abrasions and a bit of brute force. then it took me 3 hours to put the feckin thing back together.

I am never ever replacing another clutch on a Dyson vac. it's the most annoying, fiddly, non-user friendly process ever invented.

I need some beer now.:o

Lucky for you Roy, I have known people struggle for ages, only to discover they had

been supplied the wrong part :)

I know it sounded car related, hence would offer a small surprise for the curious reader who would first think the topic was in the wrong area, then realise the vacuumy truth!

Ah well. Another blow for the ailing crusade for subtlety
