My 1.9TDi PD100 Elegance

Featured Replies

Hi all, thought you may be interested in having a look at my Fabia. When I bought it recently, I fitted a K&N panel filter, numberplate surrounds, Bosch Aerotwin wipers and Philips Bluevision/Osram Nightbreaker bulbs, as well as a set of 16' Seat Leon Cupra multispokes that I got cheap for my last Fabia (a 1.4 MPI). However, I thought it still looked like it was on stilts, so I lowered it by 30mm on progressive PI springs, which in terms of looks, handling AND ride comfort, I am very pleased with. At the same time, I fitted a Seat Leon Cupra R splitter, which I reckon looks

Then last weekend, I went a bit mad and spent every waking moment in the garage  After the usual wash and hoover, I clayed and cleaned the paint. Then, I debadged the front wings, and the 'Fabia' badge on the tailgate was removed too. This was followed by a coat of Meguiar's Step 2 polish, Tech Wax 2, Gold Class Wax and finally, Collinite 476s. Sore arms, but the shine...!! :D Combined with the Rain-X on the glass, water just falls off.

I didn't bother with the rear bumper, as it's being resprayed next Monday after some :finger: reversed into me and drove away. Other than that, I'm very pleased with the car. It's not exactly slow, but will do 60mpg driven sensibly. It handles like it's on rails, but has cruise control and heated seats! Best of both worlds :pimp:At the moment, I'm just waiting for my braided hoses, discs and pads to arrive, and will then fit my JVC KD-AVX2. After that...? :rubchin: It's official, I'm an 18 year old Fabia obsessive!

All comments and thoughts welcome

Any ideas as to what would be a good next step for this thing? ;)

Car looks ace buddy :)

Loving the LCR splitter suits the bumper very well.

Personally i think you should have went lower ;)

Depends what you want from it buddy? you could map it to give vRS power?

amaxing how much lowering a car can change its appearance, looks brill!

Thanks  Quite chuffed with it since it's the first car I've modified. Haha, lower WOULD look cool, but the island roads are frankly shocking  Goes to show that the LCR splitter can work well on non-VRS Fabias too. Funny you should mention that, been toying with the idea of getting it remapped for christmas :D

Agreed i personally like the sport bumper, think it would look ace if you smoothed out the plastic bump strip bits,

Hmm...plenty to think about

It looks great. It's nice to see something other than a VRS. Great detailing btw

Looks really nice, good work. Great to see more of you younglings driving Skodas and loving them.

I presume your new discs are 312's, so maybe a rear ARB and then maybe a re-map as mentioned.

Ah, the brakes are a bit of a saga...

The originals are on their way out, so I thought 'I know, I can afford some EBC uprated discs and greenstuff pads all round! Brilliant.' :D

Except it wasn't. It was only after I placed the order that I noticed the not-exactly-favourable reviews of EBC (foolish, yes I admit it :( ). So now what I want to do is fit 312's after sending the EBC stuff back.

HOWEVER...Europerformance only sent me the front discs, no rear discs or any pads as yet and no word of them arriving anytime soon. So a persuasive phone call is definitely in order :thumbdwn:

On another note, thanks for your kind comments, and re the detailing...it's getting ridiculous in terms of cost, time, effort etc, but the results are well worth it!

And I do get a nice warm feeling by not only being the youngest Skoda enthusiast up here, but the only person driving a modified Skoda AT ALL on the island. My mates in their Corsas don't know what they're missing

Looks very nice and clean.

Very nice looking Fabia mate.

Looks great lowered

Did it make a difference in ride/handling?

Fancy doing my car???? lol

That looks great, nice work

Looks very tidy that and good to see an original wheel choice. Still a VAG wheel, but not seen them on a Fabia before

On the brakes, you won't be able to go straight to 312s with your PD100 I'm afraid. You'd need new hubs, and it starts to get pricey. Personally I'd look on Motorsport World - Performance Car Parts for uprated options while maintaining the same disc size. Ferodo DS2500 pads would be my choice, perhaps with a Black Diamond grooved disc or Tarox F2000 or even G88s . But have a look round, see what catches your eye :)

Fancy doing my car???? lol

Get it on the ferry from Ullapool to Stornoway and anything's possible :thumbup:

Looks great lowered

Did it make a difference in ride/handling?

Thanks!

The ride wasn't altered too much, certainly isn't too stiff anyway. You do notice some road imperfections a bit more, but that's to be expected really. As for the handling...yeah, it's pretty noticeable! Hardly any roll, or pitching under braking. It really gives you lots of confidence (particularly with the wider tyres) to have a bit of fun ;)

The wheels are on the car purely by chance, they were going cheap cos of knackered centrecaps. So I ditched them and put on some much smaller Skoda ones :P quite pleased with the look.

Regarding the brakes...I'm heading for that site now

Looks Great. I have the Estate version and love it . Love the wheels. I'm just an old b**ger so won't be modifying but I do like what you guys do and find it so interesting reading your posts. Excuse my ignorance, whats with the black clip things on the headlights.?.

Would be boggin by the time i got off the ferry n back home mate lol lol

this is one very nice lookin furby

Great looking car with those subtle mods! Next step would be to nip over to Star Performance and get a remap. We had ours done and not only does it go better and rev more freely, but the fuel consumption improved :)

Now some questions for you. Did the splitter fit straight on without modifications? How does it fit on? What did it cost? And how did you remove the badges without causing any damage?

nice looking car bud, just proves you don't need a vrs, would be nice to see a fe more modded non vrs's:thumbup:

just make sure you don't go through the halfords/chrome stick on shop window phase that you young ones seem to be infatuated with at times:D

No danger! Chrome belongs to classic cars IMO, I'm more into the subtle mods. So no neons or chrome strips to be found on this car

Well spotted! The black clips are just part of the headlight protectors, an OE part that came with the car.

I've been thinking about perhaps a P-Torque remap, but the key thing for me at the moment really is how it would affect my insurance since I'm only 18. One day, though... ;)

As for the splitter, the part itself cost £21, and the labour, courtesy of a mechanic mate, was free. There's a good in-depth guide on this site if you search for it. Although the non-VRS bumper is different, all becomes clear when you come to fit it :)

I removed the badges by heating them with a hairdryer to soften the glue, and sawing through the softened glue with thin fishing line. Dental floss works too. The residual glue can them be removed with Autoglym Tar Remover, before polishing and waxing for a 'proper job'
