1.3 rev gauge

Featured Replies

Hi i am new to this site and throught that i better register with you as i have been looking through the site and found lots of useful things and help, regarding suspension and voltage regulators. many thanks.

I was just wondering i have a 1997 1.3 mpi (i believe) skoda felicia and i was wondering if i was to upgrade my speedo to a newer one with a rev gauge would it work. i currently have the big round clock on the right hand side but would prefer a rev gauge to save some fuel lol

Cheers

MJ

it will already have the wiring in place in the dash loom, put it may not be wired to the ecu

What makes you think that a rev counter would save fuel? Listening to the engine and learning when to change up can be done without the need for a rev counter.

My sisters Micra doesnt have a rev counter, my older Astra didnt have a rev counter.

It's not really essential unless you want to see how many revs you do before you hit the red line.......

Yer i know it wont make any difference but i much prefer driving with one, At the moment at any speed it sounds bad as the chain needs doing which i am doing in the next few weeks.

This is my everyday/second car so saving as much petrol as possible is a must. Im getting arround 300 miles to a tank (£40 worth) until the light comes on, is this about right for a felicia?

Thanks MJ

Depending on types of journey and how you drive.

A Felly tank is 42l

I can squeeze up to 370/380 mixed and got nearly 400 on mostly motorway driving.

Thats driving normally without revving too hard and things and its averaging above 40mpg. This is the 1.6 version.

Not sure about the 1.3 engine.

im only doing about 30 miles a day in traffic (stopping and starting) to and from work so not the best for fuel. i will see what it is like on sunday for the motorway for fuel. once its through the mot next week i will be doing a service on it, so should be alot better after

I make that 32mpg if you're filling up when you're on fumes, more if you fill up with a gallon or 2 left like most people do.

It's not that bad for in-town work.

i think i fill up about 38/39 litres i do it when the light is always on. how do you work it out?

Gallons = litres / 4.54.

MPG = miles since last fill / gallons purchased.

All presuming you fill to a consistent level of course; I always fill until the pump clicks off once, and stop.

Use Spiritmonitor to monitor your mpg figures like most of us on here.

Going by Kens figures

The Felicia has a 9.3 (9.25 rounded off) Gallon tank

Assuming I get 360 out of my current tank divide that by 9.3 and I'll get 38.7 mpg

Depending on what I need with the car sometimes I can wait a day or two after the red light comes on before filling.

Yes it works - the wiring is already there.

I did this on mine - I just got hold of an instrument panel with a rev counter in it, and swapped the speedo unit over (To keep the right mileage).

It's bit fiddly to get your hands round the back of the instrument panel to undo the clips, the speedo cable, and the wiring loom, but not impossible.

cheers

James

As fruitbat states, it is possible but a bit fiddly to remove the instrument panel even though Haynes:thumbdwn: say you have to remove the steering wheel.

Just undo the speedo cable on the gearbox end, and with the instrument panel already freed push the cable through the bulk head then that will give you more clearance to undo it on the instrument panel. It works on the Favorit anyway which isn't all that different.

i have a speedo coming my way so i will give it a go, should be fine as i have done it on a number of corsas before and they are fiddly as well try to fit your hand behind is the differcult bit. i will keep you all informed of the progress.

cheers MJ
