Auto wipers - without auto wipers!

Featured Replies

I've only just noticed today that my manual wipers have a semi - auto function!

When they are on normal speed mode, they go to intermittent when the car is stationary!

Can't believe I'd not spotted this sooner after 36000 miles!

Yeah, i noticed this in my fathers Passat. I once had a 1999 renault megane and it had wipers like that too.

AFAIK Renault were the 1st to come up with this, and the rear wiper comming on when main wipers are running and reverse is selected, both features other car makers have copied

You will also notice that when the intermittent wipers is selected the time between each wipe is slightly longer when the car is stationary.

I will look out for that!

My '94 Laguna RT had all those features, including the double rear wipe, the wipe on reverse, etc, etc. Oh, and the passenger side mirror moved down so you can see the nearside kerb when parking.

LOL - it's funny when you suddenly spot something in a car you've been driving around in for ages.

I had a 2000 Megane which had the wipers that dropped to intermittent at slow speeds and the automatic rear wipe when reverse was selected.

Both really sensible features and I always wondered why all cars didn't do that.

I had 2 Mk4 Astras, and never knew the steering wheel was adjustable for reach as well as rake!

Also when on the fast speed it goes down to the slow one when you are stopped. It can be overrided. Switch on the wipers when the car is stopped it doesn't do it. That was the case on the renault anyway.

I recently took my Octavia in for its first service. When it came back I noticed that my wipers went to intermittent when the vehicle stopped. I’ve convinced myself they didn’t do that before and the software upgrade Skoda carried out during the service included this feature.
