At the risk of sounding like a bit of a girl!

Featured Replies

I've returned home from work to find my shiny new N95 8gb awaiting my attention.

I have a question and it's technical :o

I want to transfer many things from my previous Nokia phone to my new one. The contacts list was ok as all my contacts were saved to my sim card which I simply slotted in to my new phone and it copied them all.

It's the text messages I want, as there are some important things I need to save. When I had the sim in the old phone I investigated whether there was an option to save these to the sim but couldn't find one. Maybe I'm just missing it?

For all my pics and videos and extra ring tones I'm guessing I can upload them to my pc and then transfer them to the new phone but can this be done with texts aswell?

My brain is too mashed from work to have a new toy to play with today.

What's the model of your old Nokia?

I've used the Nokia PC Suite application to save texts off my current Nokia, and my previous Nokia.

I don't know if you can get the texts from your old phone onto your new phone though?

My old phone is a Nokia 6234, I'm not sure it was that widely available.

I certainly saved texts off my 6230i (similar sort of age?) onto my PC using the Nokia PC Suite application.

But I couldn't work out how to get them onto my new Nokia- on the other hand I didn't try too hard as I didn't really need them on my new phone.

does the nokia transfer program work on that old phone?

Have a look at Nokia PC suite (on Nokia.co.uk- support and software)--my works Nokia is a bottom end one that uses mini USB lead ( actually it's from my camera) and PC Suite - and I can read all my texts on that -come to think of it ,think you can send texts composed on your PC (or it looks like it )

6234 is just a version of the 6233 for your info which is still available to buy.

Steve

Just use the content copier feature on the PC suite. Failing that when you plug the handset into USB it will give you the option to "use as DATA STORAGE" which will give your PC a new removable drive accessible from My Computer. Go into that and copy the contents of the whole thing to a new folder somewhere on your PC. Then reverse the process for thew new phone.

It seems like many of you are suggesting the Nokia suite. I never really bothered with it for my old phone.

I will have to investigate, although playing around tonight it does feel kinda nice having it all clean and not full of junk that I don't want to get rid of. I'm a sentimental old fool.

My experience is that you cant get S40 based handset messages onto an S60 device as the messages are coded differently, and Nokia suite wont convert them - or at least never used to!

Be interested to know if it now does Pixi.

Top Tip: Why not set up a tape recorder, and read your favourite text messages out loud, using text speak, and a variety of comedy accents to spice things up!

Then when you have some free time you could play the tapes back and use the Quickoffice application on your phone to type these messages up, and store them as documents on your unfeasibly large phone memory.

Hours of fun!
