200bhp how to?

Featured Replies

well the show season has practically come to a close so i'm planning what i can to the car over the up and coming months and want to change my car.

i'm quite liking the idea of increasing its bhp.

am i just aswell getting a clutch and remapping it to 180ish?

i quite fancy taking it to or just above 200bhp nothing crazy but what is required to do this?

i know clutch will need uprated regardless or i'll destroy my standard one.

would filter, FMIC, and remap achive this? or do i have to look at changing the turbo?

would rather not change the turbo due to funds than anything else.

its just an idea and may never even happen but all advice appreciated.

would also mean raising it and a possible change of wheels as the porsche ones look crap when the car sits higher.

Think you'll need a new turbo to get close to 200 let alone over. Then you're looking FMIC etc etc

With filter FMIC and map your probably looking around 180, for the extra outlay of a turbo to get to 200 and if you really dont want much more I wouldn't bother, the map is the 'cheap' power, and when you start venturing after that horses cost more.

you will need to change the turbo for 200bhp,along with a fmic, think you have everything else allrady, why the change? Was it me coming past you like you were in reverse at trax?:P

Wouldn't worry about it,jasons 259bhp couldn't keep me behind him either:cool:

to be fair i was driving like a poof at trax and my car was still sliding all over the place.

i've practically achieved what i wanted with regards to looks but at the show i was more impressed with the other quicker fabia's plus it would be nice to be able to surprise a few people getting left in a cloud of smoke.

time for change i think.

i'm most likely going for a front mount as i want to do the open mouth look and would look so much better with a nice intercooler there, everything else is stuff i may go for to increase the horses too.

I was quoted by a reputable company for the following:

PD150 Hybrid Turbo £1020

Oil feed Pipe £30

Gaskets, Nuts & Bolts £20

Oil Service £75

Labour To Fit Turbocharger £423

Sachs Organic Clutch Kit £545

Release Bearing £40

Labour To Fit Clutch Kit £205

Front Mount Pro-Alloy Intercooler £795

Labour To Fit Intercooler: £211.50

De-Cat Down Pipe £160

Cat Back Exhaust £312

Fitting Of Exhaust Free

Custom Remap To Suit Parts £475

Total, drive in drive out, inc VAT £4311.50

This should see around 240bhp at the fly. I asked what I could get for £3000, but they advised you were either all in, or all out, as once you've upgrades one part you really need to upgrade another. Get a turbo and u need an intercooler, get those you need a clutch. Get those you need another remap. Get those you need a... and so on. So I'd save up the £4k and go for the whole shibang...

thats a fair old bill there but i guess if i want to go that route i'd best get saving!

theres also over a grand of labour in there i could save, i'd only need to source the parts then fit and get a specialist to map it.

save on labour and diy,it really is a very simple job, hell,at those prices i am definatly in the wrong job,200 quid to fit a front mount!!!!!! even shifty fitted his own,and he is a self confessed non mech:D

£423 in labour to fit the turbo bloody hell! That means wardy owes me about £800

I'll be DIYing some mods next year i think to up the horses.

I hope to join the 200BHP club next year also.

Getting the XBox fixed so i'll be in the house over the winter saving my money!

HA!

thats a good plan:P

I don't think I'm going to up my power. £4k (I seriously, seriously couldn't fit anything myself, I only 6 months ago finally changed my own tyre... I'm totally useless at everything mechanical). I'm gonna spend the winter getting the look of the motor right... lower, splitter etc. and get a few stone chips and paint scratches sorted. And my MOT, and insurance and tax are all up before Xmas!!!

200? No way on standard turbo (safely)

I reckon you could do 210ish on the standard intercooler, but it wouldn't be nice and heatsoak would be common. (maybe not on the Edinburgh climate though ;))

So, I would say an even grand for turbo (might get a hybrid off here / seatcupra net if you're lucky ;)) and about £500-£600 for clutch and flywheel.

£2000 and I reckon you could get turbo, fmic & clutch - Then you just need to worry about fitting & mapping. :)

Then brakes and lowered suspension . I wouldn't want to drive a 200bhp Fabby with otherwise standard kit. You'd be pitching and lurching before ending up in a ditch cos you couldn't stop in time. A normal map is ok on standard brakes etc (I'm running this) but any more and the standard components would be seriously tested and IMO dangerous. 312's at least are a must in my mind.

Judging by how low his car was at TRAX I think the suspension is sorted. ;) Not sure if he's done 312s yet though - I think so, but not sure. :)

An SMF will also be a good idea :)

Seconded

Ask your buddies over at Total Auto Solutions how cool mines sounded with a SMF :rofl:

312's are on my list although i'm sure you could probably uprate the 288's and have just as good stopping power.

You have similar plans to me, but I have the benefit of working for a tuning company and being an experienced dyno tuner so my costs are a lot lower.

I would highly reccomend the 312's over an 'uprated' 288 setup, fitted mine over the weekend and I am pleased, not as good as the brakes on my track car of course, but more than capable for fast road use. (I use Brembo discs and mintex pads, only cost me £160) and callipers were £75 from a scrappy.

True - 312's are something else though on the Fabby - felt like my seat belt nearly cut me in half when they were prodded. :P

I'll be getting better pads next time mine are due. Using Brembo discs with OEM pads at the mo and they're ok but could be better. Too loose in the calipers too and make noise as they move up and down.

Save yourself time dude and go with 227bhp... all you need to do this is... well... buy mine ;)

I am very much so considering selling mine but cannot decide whether to keep it with the turbo and everything or break it down/swap part back to standard and sell the parts then sell a remapped lowered furby... :S

but bottom line

buy mine :P
