after seeing the stand at trax and getting a leaflet i was interested in the ultimate quik detailer spray, from what i gather you spray it over the dirt and wipe it off? doesnt this scratch the paint work?

Ive also been through adding up the cost (around £200) as many will know i use AG which i have built up over the last year (and costly too). so what products would i need if i was to start replacing with megs?

You wont find any products by Megs that are worth the extra outlay over

In my opinion of course:

Autoglym Ultra Deep Shine

Super Resin Polish

Bumper Care

Vinyl + Rubber Care

Fast Glass

Glass Polish

Apart from say Last Touch, UQD, Megs DC1 and DC2 but NOT DC3, the wheel cleaner, the tyre dressing, the glass cleaner, the rubber trim dressing, the metal polish..

Oh sorry that's quite a list there isn't it.

UDS is IMHO poor.

SRP and EGP are good

Bumper care is again IMHO awful and washes off in rain or runs leaving marks.

Vinyl + Rubber care isn't a favourite either, but the leather cream is quite good.

Fast glass I don't really rate, but the intensive glass cleaner is good, if somewhat dusty.

I can't say I use one brand exclusively as each brand will have different products that are better at certain things. Eg Bilt Hambers washes, Colli Wax, Klasse /AG/Megs paint cleaner and polishes or 3M polishes.

Back on Topic, the UQD you were offered would be ideal for topping up the shine after a wash, just like you currently do with the aquawax. If you're using the colli however you shouldn't need it and it might affect the wax as it's a sealant based product.

You could also use UQD to remove a very small amount of light traffic dust when you arrive at a show show after a good wash and prep before leaving.

If you use it on heavy dirt, then the chances are you would scratch the paint quite badly.

cheers, i did speak to them on the stall and all their speed detailer stuff he admitted just lasts a couple of days but the new 11.99 one with wax lasted a couple of weeks. he reckoned it wouldnt scratch the car spraying it on and wiping off the dirt, but i beg to differ as you wiping a cloth with dirt trap between cloth and body work.

what cloths do you reccommend as i got tons of microfibres but they did mention a water magnet and a huge microfibre cloth too.

IMHO and others on here the Megs Watermagent is sh*te and the biggest waste of £10 I've every had. It went hard after a couple of washes.

I'd suggest the Sonus Der Wunder drying towles and IIRC Baker has some Eurow (IIRC) ones he likes for drying.

I'd probably order in a gallon bottle of Megs Last touch (You can dilute this 1:1 with water), a spray bottle and a decent drying towel. You can then use that post wash to just remove water marks and reduce the risk of maring while drying.

In terms of polish etc my current favourite is the Klasse AIO as it's a cleaner and polish and sealant all in one. I'm washing, putting this down on the paint then once it's all cured I'll put a couple of coats of the Colli on it for the winter :)

The Megs Ultimate Quik Detailer in my opinion is great for a top up wax after a wash but I wouldn't use it to get dirt off the car though............

I am using this product after every wash with my car and I love it, beads well and I am happy with the protection........

Sounds like someone like AG products.........

I used the Megs Detailer Spray on the Fabia every 2 months or so after a wash & it gave some good results. The only problem I found was that it was quite difficult to buff up. It needed quite a bit of elbow grease to remove the residue.

I wanted to try something different & went for Prima Slick spray.

This is far better to use & gives the same, if not better shine/protection.

I gave the Leon a quick misting of the Slick spray at the weekend - came up nice & shiney! :)

i'd only ever use detailer spray to take off light dust maybe, or mainly just when drying to help dry without having to wipe too hard and to help not leave watermarks? and maybe to wipe over car if you have polished then left for few hours before waxing etc.

its definatley not a waterless wash tool or a wax in a bottle?

I would say that Megs Ultimate Quik Detailer is nearly a 'wax in a bottle' product......

The towel I use here is from the USA from Autozone and it's brillant:

Then the car was dried with a Waffle Weave Drying Towel;

I would however recommend this towel as an alternative:

- Eurow Extra Large Waffle Weave Microfibre Drying Towel - 26" x 36" Elite Car Care

I have used the above towel and recommend it to my customers to buy after I have detailed their car.........

Meh... not an out and out fan the only product I really like is the SRP and Ultra Deep Shine, Glass Polish and Fast Glass.

I'm not a massive detailing buff, the most exotic product I have in my kit is collinite 476s

But I have used quite a few different products from the "lower" (Turtlexwax, Simoniz, Halfords Own, Armourall) and "lower-mid" (AG, Megs) ranges and the only key product worth spending more on is WAX.

I've tried about 10 different cheap waxes and everytime I come back to Collinite 476s for the "twice a year application" and Meguirs Caranuba Deep Crystal for the "after a quick wash".

The simonize hard wax you can buy from halfords is actually a very good wax for very little money. It's been around for years and just went out of favour when the liquid waxes came in as it is harder to apply.

The Megs DC3 is a waste of time IMHO as it's finish is dull and the lifetime short. You'd be better off getting a spray carnuba top up product from elite or somewhere.

Its funny you say that... as the Simoniz "Hard" is the one "cheap" wax I havnt tried... is it as a paste in a tin then or in a squirt bottle?

The paste in a tin, the liquid isn't so great and pretty similar to the Megs DC3 in my opinion.

Was yellow and black last i used it. It's a pretty hard paste wax and I'd defiantly use an applicator to put it on as if you put it on too thick it's a bugger to get off.

I'd suggest a foam applicator and a couple of MF cloths to get it off.

If you've got a cheapy £15 car "polisher" then these things can really help getting the wax off if you put it on too thick.

so, lets say a new member comes on here and wants to get into detailing but not madly into it what would everyone recommend?

im currently using

SRP

EGP

AG shampoo

AG dark shine

collinte 476

aqua wax (AG)

using a lamb wash mitt, microfibre cloths and two bucket method as well as a jet wash.

Hopefully with this thread it will help new members as well as old and may give some pointers or ideas for other products etc. im going to look into this huge towel mentioned above by baker21 anyway

I'd say

Bilt Hamber Autowash + 2 buckets and a wash mitt.

Bilt Hamber Clay (If they want to try this)

Klasse All In One (AIO),

Colli 476s

Some Megs Last Touch

A Sonus or Eurow Drying towel

A couple of foam applicators and some MF cloths.

For the inside I still haven't used the Poorboys dressing, but am finishing off the AG leather car which gives the plastics a mat silicon free finish.

For somebody who just wants to put in a bit of effort twice a year and only goes to halfords etc:

- The Zym0l autowash (£5.99) or Tesco pink shampoo

- Autoglym SRP (£8.99)

- Symoniz hard paste wax (£5.99)

- Couple of megs foam applicators (£2)

- A bundle of Tescos/Asda/etc Microfibre cloths.

- Two buckets

- A wash mitt

- A Microfibre drying cloth (Not the megs one as it goes hard too easily)

IIRC Tom or somebody already did a thread like this which is now a sticky.
