Handling like a WRX?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

just wondering what level of mods would be required for a 1.8t 4x4 to have simlar handling capabilities as a standard (typical) WRX turbo?

Not going to happen; the WRX has double wishbones all round rather than strut front and torsion beam rear, and the boxermotor gives it a way lower front centre of gravity.

Yes, lowered, stiffer springs and ARBs, front upper and lower braces, rear upper brace (no point in a lower brace with a torsion beam), and same size wheels and tyres will get you down the road at a similar pace, but the handling will always be different.

4x4s arnt torsion beam on the back.... 2wd Mk1 octavias are.

With the ammout of built in understeer from the Subaru chassis it is pritty easy to make a 4x4 octavia handle as well as a WRX.

The best combo IMO if you want handaling/ comfort is to get a set of KW v3's, newspeed front and rear ARB's, rear adjustable link arms (optinal), and a decent set of low ish profile tyres! and take it someware to have the dampers professionally set-up,

Coilovers dont allwase mean a crashy ride if there set properly, a compliant chassis that works with the stiffness of the shell will alwase mean more grip overall.

Hope this helps

i've got all that but with KW v'2, will be taking it somewhere to get setup once everything else is sorted
