Knocking noise front wheel

Featured Replies

I hope i have put this in the right area.!!!

I have a Felicia pickup, and have had an intermittent knocking/grinding noise from the front drivers side, somewhere around the bulkhead. It was there one day then gone and two or three days later it was back. It sounded quite bad, then it would go. This morning on the motorway it became constant. Well to cut a long story short, i had a look underneath and found it to be the split weight that is on the right half shaft. the rubber inside it had perished causing it to slide towards the road wheel and rub on some part of the bodywork. I cant get the rubbers yet but i have bodged it to get me about. I hope this may help someone with the same mysterious knocking!!!

PS. can anyone tell me why the middle exhaust section for a Felicia pickup is a hundred quid? sounds a bit steep to me!!!

Straight pipe is cheaper ;):D

the middle section has the catalytic convertor in it

Mine cost just over £30 for my fun, from a local factor

I thought the cat was in the front section? I have had prices for the middle section of about 40 quid but thats fit it yourself!!! Is that much of a job?

it depends which engine you have on the 1.6 downpipe from the manifold is integral with the cat, then it has a seperate centre box and rear box.

I have got a 1,9 diesel, this looks to me like it has the down pipe and cat, then a joint, then the section that is damaged thats got a box on it. Then an end piece that also has a box. I was quoted around a hundred pounds from three firms to supply and fit the middle section. On the net i can get the middle section, including vat and postage for 30 to 40 pounds. But then i have got to fit it. I have just come back from my local main dealer, where i picked up the rubber inserts for the vibration damper on the aforementioned job, i asked them for a price for the exhaust part out of interest, they said they would sell it to me for 40 quid inc vat!!!! still got to fit it though. It looks like main dealer stuff is not always an arm and a leg!!!!

it might be worth trying somewhere like ATS or quick-fit, they are getting desperate to sell stuff now and you can get some pretty good deals

I will give ATS a try, I think they will be much the same price as the rest though!!! I may just be out of touch with prices and that what you have got to pay for exhausts now. Or maybe they load a bit on as its a small commercial, I dont know... It just seemed to be a bit excessive to me!! a hundred quid for one section, with the cat it would be about 400 for a full system!!! Given that its a tatty old work horse, that would be flip a coin time for me as to weather i keep it or get something else!! As Wogan would say..... Is it ME?!!!
