Another central locking question

Featured Replies

Perhaps a better thread title might be "I'm A Simpleton, Get Me Out Of Here", so apologies in advance if this another obvious question...

The central locking behaviour on our Roomster is confusing me again.

Just forward of the gearstick are two buttons, one marked with a key icon, the other with an open door icon. I know what these mean - one for lock, the other for unlock, as my Octavia had the same, but I can't fathom their operation in the Roomy.

If I turn the ignition off, remove the key and press that lock button, the central locking engages and the key icon is then illuminated.

If I then press the unlock button, nothing happens. Not a sausage. Even if I hold it down for a couple of seconds, nada. The only way to disengage the locks seems to be by operating the interior door handle, or using the remote fob.

Is that normal ? Or have I got a duff switch ?

Thanks,

HF

Doesn't sound right. You should be able to unlock the way you've been trying. If you haven't had your locking set for it, it can be modified to unlock all doors when you remove the key from the ignition...

Not really sure why you need an unlock button there at all because once you pull the interior handle the car unlocks itself

Depends what settings one has enabled... Mine for instance is set to anti-highjack. Pull as you may if the keys are not in the ignition & the car's been locked/armed, pull as you may on an interior handle. All your going to do is rip the handle off it will never open!:orb_devil

As opposed to when the car is running the handle must be pulled 2wice unless I've unlocked it to let them out...:orb_face_

Why do all these different settings have to be done at a Skoda dealer. What's the point of allowing all these settings if the customer doesn't have any knowledge of them?

Well many VAG loyalists/enthusiasts & customers are aware... In addition anyone with a VAG-com could modify these settings. You might try that section of the forum to find some local Briskodian willing to help.:help:

I'm also aware that part of the lack of knowledge may have to do with local laws & regulations. For instance in the States you need to be able to always exit the vehicle even from the boot with illuminated handle... So to say the least they wouldn't set up the cars there at PDI with the anti-highjack function! Likewise in a country with with many kidnapings you'd really find it necessary. Hope this helps!!!
