WRC: The future...(if any)

Featured Replies

I thought it was still known as the 'RAC' (Rally Around Cardiff).

Never heard that one before, but it works too. :D

The RAC is the Roger Albert Clark Rally for 2WD Historic cars in November - held in NYorks, Scotland, Kielder. Proper event!!!

eee by gum, when I were a lad we would drive 50 mile to 't stage start, in a car wi' no windscreen 'cause it id been rolled, twice, another 10 mile wi 't co-driver sitting in engine compartment operating 't throttle and trying to balance car cause i'd ripped a wheel off and , and, then we'd get eaten alive wit midges just before dawn. And that were all int parc ferme.................

WRC is going to die, and should be a wake up call to the other motorsports - like F1.

Fans and sponsors dont want meddling and expensive investment in order to comply with the rules.

Sadly with things the way they are, firms are asking themselves if being in such sports actually brings any benefit/sales.

The answer with everyone tightening their belts is no. So why bother burning a few £1m?

Apart from the midges, I've seen all of these things happen for real in Gp4 or GpB.

WRC has become F1 in the stages.

It is far too expensive

therefore far too exclusive (or should that be the other way round?).

Short stages, limited traveling distance etc are all geared for the media, which the sport is not attracting.

Rally GB based around South Wales is a joke (no offense to Wales) - Bring back a 4 day event with 2 WD, over night stages, traveling the length and breadth of the UK. - then you will have something that is challenging and still "do-able" for the grass route clubman.

Killer Keilder at 3 am on a dark wet November morning, after 24 hrs of driving - bring it on!!!!

Have to agree with you there:thumbup:

cheaper, more production based cars are definitely needed to bring a few manufacturers back to the sport, with proper events where the challenging stages predominate, rather than just following money around the world.

Something needs to be done soon though, would be a real shame for the sport to die a death
