Felicia P Reg 1.3 Petrol Speedo

Featured Replies

Hello (Thanks for reading this, any help really needed)

I have a estate Felicia 1.3. Recently we have had some bad weather and the roads have had a lot of standing water and roadside puddles. I have noticed that the Speedo has stopped working. No speed indication nor the mileage is not being added to. All other displays work, Rev counter, temp. fuel and time on display.

I have been reading this excellent site, and noted that I could replace the unit, but I have recently had a baby and not only is fatherhood a real challenge, (first one), and I miss sleep, but I have not got any spare cash at the moment. A cheap fix would be ideal.

I have limited engine experience, A Hayes manual, solely for reference and I can call on some help. Where should I look, what could I check for. what should it look like.

If you've lost both speed and mileage indication, that usually points to a fault with the speedo drive, or a major fault with the head.

A major fault with the head, I take it to mean the head gasket. Thats seems fatal, or expensive or both. this shows everyone, that Iknow nothing about motors

No, the speedometer head, which is a group of gears that convert the rotating motion of the gearbox into speed and distance covered.

The most likely faults with the speedo drive are a broken cable, a rounded off end, or a stripped gear at the gearbox (normally) end.

Yep, the gearing for the speedo in the top of the gearbox is plastic, and quite fragile.

:iagree: i would try looking in the gearbox end of the cable first

These guys know the Felicia better than I do; I just listed the things that go wrong with a cable drive in the order I thought of them (but have only actively encountered broken cables in other makes).
