vRS models - really worthy of special badge?

Featured Replies

Hmmm - probably you have more warranty left than me... your decision :p

Horners are pretty chip-friendly, they don't have any problem working on Ian's car,

even warranty work!

Rob.

Just looked at 3 911s, all about 10-12 years old, full Porsche service history, 2 Carrera 4s and a 2, lowest mileage was 75, highest was 98. Prices? 12950 (LHD), 14,500, and 16999. So, did I buy one? Nope, something else is draining money from my bank account faster than I ever could :(

And before anyone says that the miles are high, I just cracked 85,000 in my RS (& its only 18 months od) :p

Well...

Skoda and Seat are confined to what the powers within the VAG group allow...

If Skoda got the 225bhp 4x4 Octavia vRS4 -- that would compete with the Audi S3... Can't have that can we also with the

laughable Golf GTI at 150bhp

Seat with the Leon Cupra R has only 210bhp...

How much BHP do you want in a fwd hatchback??

I would love to own a 1984 Sport quattro tuned to at least 500hp..

I believe the Golf GTI turbo now has the 180bhp version of the 1.8T engine. Still looks like a rip-off compared with an RS though.

The Leon Cupra R is due to get a power hike to 225bhp probably next year.

Maybe the RS could be next on the list for a upgrade :D

It's called the GTI 180. The stock GTi still has 150 bhp. I tell a lie, the real stock GTi (they do three now) has a 2 litre 8v unit producing about 115 bhp. It's a dog and the engine is older than me. No grunt and it sucks fuel out of the tank at an alarming rate.

Just looked at VW.co.uk and sure enough a 180bhp engine will cost you 950 pounds more!

The 5 door GTI 180 costs 3000 pounds more than an RS!

The RS definitely deserves a special badge alot more than the current Golf GTI.

The turbos I can accept as GTIs but that 2.0 does not deserve the GTI badge.

So, next question, how many of you with the budget for an 18k Golf would have bought it over the RS?

Talking of Porsches , I saw a Boxster 2.5 advertised the other week at a dealer (not Porsche) for 22K - ish on a P plate offhand i dont remember the miles , but I wonder how long it will be before these cars will be under 20K? If i had the choice of a second hand TT or Boxster at around 17K id take the Porsche , even tho it would be an older car by a good 3 years....and if anyone is looking to buy a Porsche (especially an old un) I reccomend joining PCGB as all the best cars are for sale in the mag.
