fabia 2003 1900sdi asy eng code

Featured Replies

hi all

got a problem with my fabia checked with vag com and will only comms with engine and comes up with fault code 18045 / p1637 can interface .

i have been told its a new instrument cluster req ? just wonderd if any of you guys had come across this fault

18045 P1637 Data Bus Powertrain missing message f.central electr.control

It could be possible that it needs a new dash panel, however I would need more than just this one code to justify replacing such an expensive/important part. It could be the central electrics controller that is faulty.

I did replace a dash panel in a car which I thought was faulty, see here:

http://briskoda.net/diagnostics-vag-com/i-need-some-help-little-problem/97240/

The dash panel contains the gateway, it is the gateway that acts as an interface between the CAN systems. If the dash panel was faulty I would expect error codes to appear in other controllers.

After re-reading your post, it says that you can only communicte with the engine ECU, if the other control units are not powering up I would suspect the central electrics first.

The gateway in a fabia is situated in the J-519 / central electrics controller.. In many other cars it is incoporated into tha dash panel, and on the cars like a new Octavia, the J-533 / Gateway is a separate unit.

Where is the central electrics unit

On Mk1 Fabia and Polo 9N, J519 is above the accelerator pedal (on RHD cars), below the relay panel. I imagine Ibiza will be the same, if that's the car you're asking about?

So it’s the black box with all wires plugged into it does this need to be programmed into the car or is it plug and play ?

Yes. If you got one from an identical car with all the same options and functions, it would work the same; but if not, various options would need to be coded in using VCDS.

Info about the relevant options here: https://workshop-manuals.com/skoda/fabia-mk1/vehicle_electrics/electrical_system/instruments_gci/self-diagnosis_of_the_vehicle_voltage_control_unit_ii/coding_the_vehicle_voltage_control_unit/

That page is for Mk1 Fabia, I think Ibiza will be near identical, but can't find the equivalent page on that site.

What's the fault you're trying to fix?

I have two fault codes 18045 and 17925

I think the 17925 points to the ECU relay, doesn't it? That's not in that controller.  What's the engine code of your car?

18045 doesn't even seem to be listed for the 1.2 engines (in Mk1 Fabias anyway), so I'm not sure where that's coming from.

That’s the one I have under the footwell the car isn’t starting and I’ve traction control light on all the time even with ignition off

Strange (particularly the TC light), have you checked fuses in the cabin fusebox? Not sure which one will be relevant on an Ibiza, but check any that relate to engine management/engine ECU.

What year is the car? Is it an AZQ engine code, 64 bhp, 12-valve?

All fuse are fine it’s a 2003 1.2 12v

I think I'd try another ECU relay if you can grab one cheaply, not sure what position it'll be in the Ibiza, as it's in a different position in Polo and Fabia, so may be different again on Ibiza. May have number 429 on it.  If you don't have one with that number on, tell me what relays you do have in which positions, or stick up a photo if you can.

I have tryed one no difference
