Navman GPS in Fabia vRS

Featured Replies

Does anyone have experience of using the Navman iCN 630 in a Fabia vRS? I don't want it stuck to the windscreen, and the power cable would be a nuisance there anyway. It seems able to see enough of the satellites to function from a position below the radio, or on top of the 'ashtray', but I haven't yet devised a neat way if fixing it without making serious holes in the car. Any ideas or photos?

Thanks

Try this link for a bracket.

I have the equivalent bracket to mount my IPAQ with TomTom in my Octavia and it works well. I got a universal PDA holder from Halfords and fixed it onto the bracket (with a bit of drilling) to hold the IPAQ in place.

Belated thanks to those who replied to my query about mounting the Navman in the Fabia VRS. I was looking for a fixing method that wouldn't damage the car in any way, and would be quickly mountable and demountable: on most journeys you know where you are going and don't need to use the gadget after the novelty wears off, and I wouldn't like the look of a permanently-fixed empty bracket.

I think I have now devised a solution that could be of interest to others. It struck me that it should be possible to attach it somehow with a fixing inside the hole beneath the radio. So I cut a piece of shiny black Perspex suitably shaped to fit snugly inside the hole, sticking out enough to attach the Navman's sucker mount. This seemed to hold the device in a suitable position; how then to stop it from falling out? The simplest possible idea turned out to be ideal: a piece of foam-rubber pipe insulation, pressed into the hole on top of the Perspex in a U-shape. This holds the Perspex perfectly securely, and is removable in an instant. With the device mounted in this position the cable reaches the socket easily, and the antenna receives a good signal.

I am going to try to attach a few pictures.

Next problem will be the mobile phone!

this is a pic without the mout attached just the proclip attached to the dash it just clips in place very clever... You can then attache any mount you want but the brodit ones are very good if a bit expensive  I will take more pics tomorrow with my PDA mount attached

Thanks all

Given me some ideas... how I can mount iPaq and mobile phone

thanks for taking the photo doer1 :)

Damn. Throws that idea out the window! Looks great and would have one in a flash, but it would interupt with my screen. Unless of course it could be mounted to the right hand side of the wheel. ;)

you can use a brodit mount for the ipaq and a dashmount for the phone which is the same setup as mine.. but I dont like the Nokia kit in my car.. but it was free with work.. was thinking of using a blue tooth phone with voice dialing and two brodit mounts one on the vent and one on the console..

Here are the pics with the PDA holder installed with my Tosh and CF GPS card. You can connect anything to the proclip I have used the Brodit PDA non-powered holder.

The Brodit Pro Clip costs about

It certainly looks very nice in your pics. Perhaps I'll try one. Thanks for the info.

Well I use a Brodit clip and sucker system, you just slot the PDA into the holster easily to connect it with the GPS ariel and power supply.
